Happy May!!! Seriously though. Where in the heck did almost half of 2018 go?!? My girls have less than three weeks left of school and then we leave for our Summer adventure four days later. I literally just cannot even think about what all we have to accomplish in these next 24 days. I know lots of you mommies out there know how it is. Recitals and class parties and Field Day and all of those end of year activities. Add on a little Summer preparation and work responsibilities and then this girl needs a margarita. Or two. On our personal agenda we have the completion and rental stocking of both of our current rental renovation projects: Our Wilderness Wonderland and Our Garage Apartment. We’ve also had a few little “cannot mention” things going on plus we are at a fun and exciting point with one of our flip homes while our second one is about to be officially underway. We truly love it though. As much as I chat about busyness I also constantly remind myself of all of our blessings. We have worked our booties off since college to be at this point in our lives where we can finally do what we truly love. And it ROCKS.
Tonight (Sunday) I am actually staying up at our cabin solo. I have a crap ton to get done so Mark took the girlies home this afternoon so I could stay up here alone and really focus on work for the next two days. I always feel like peace and quiet sounds so fabulous until about an hour after they all leave and then I miss them like craziness. Although I am actually not fully alone. I just peeked at the front door to make sure it was locked and I saw a huge animal right in front of our driveway. It didn’t take me too long to realize it was a huge black bear! I Facetimed the kiddos and followed it around the side of our house and through the back yard via our back deck. So crazy!
Today I am starting the full reveal of the completion of “Our Wilderness Wonderland“. I cannot even believe I get to write the word COMPLETION. It literally feels like yesterday when we began this renovation. Three short months ago we got started and today it is complete and furnished and accessorized. Several more things to purchase for renters as well as some paperwork to fill out and it will be hitting the rental market! Make sure and sign up to “Follow My Blog” and you could be the first to rent it out!
My full tour begins right when you walk into the front door with our kitchen. Kitchens are always a bit of a challenge since 98% of the space is “hard furnishings”… as in all cabinets and countertops and tile rather than sofas and rugs and pillows. Decisions in kitchens and bathrooms always feel more permanent so that’s always a little scary. For this space, I started with the flooring and chose Shaw Floors’ Courtside Tile in Anthracite. I love the dark gray color plus the larger tile size which makes the space feel much larger and more open. The variance in the gray gives it such a natural, sophisticated look that I LOVE! From there, I chose the cabinet color. I use so much blue in my design work that I decided to design a home around the color green to change things up! I have this new obsession with designing around a super classic black/white theme so I found this super cute star tile and decided it would make such a fun and whimsical focal point as backsplash behind the stove. We actually had extra subway tile from our kitchen so I used that on either side of the star tile which worked out perfectly! We then created this gorgeous vent hood from pallet wood and had our white quartz countertops installed! To finish off the look I found this fun, colorful rug from Lavender Fields to play up the whimsy factor a little more plus add my signature pop of color. I have found sooo many cute rugs and home decor from Lavender Fields over the last several years. They are one of my faves! So here’s a peek at our completed cabin kitchen…
