Flare jeans and disco balls are BACK and we are HERE FOR IT!!! I was wearing my favorite new super flared jeans to Winnie’s field trip last week and one of the gentleman there said he hadn’t seen jeans like that since high school in the 70’s! LOL. Maybe I was inspired by the project I am sharing today… a huge disco ball installation in our Addison’s Wonderland Event Space!
Four years ago almost exactly, I signed the lease for not one but TWO side by side retail locations. And then barely a month or two later I would discover something that made me file for a swift divorce leaving me to tackle not only the business side of a new retail business but also the renovations! The two spaces were at one point two individual “stores” but both together make up one building in our cute little historic downtown. The right side which was the only side I was going to lease at first, I knew I wanted as a retail store for all things AW clothing and home decor. The left side was kind of a last minute addition to my final lease signing with the idea of creating a wine/dessert bar. However, once things in my personal life suddenly veered off course, I was left with a 1,600sf space that I had absolutely NO IDEA what to do with. I went back and forth between trying to sublease it to someone else to making it more retail space although I wasn’t sure I could afford that much extra stock at the time.
Then one day, a day I vividly remember, I asked myself… okay what am I good at and what do I think I could most easily make work, monetarily and logistically. Since my strengths fall in making spaces cute I landed on making it into a cute space that could simply be rented out as an event space. And the rest fell beautifully into place. Once we got the dirty work of renovations complete. So much so I guess you could say that the building I once so so so regretted leasing became one that I was able to purchase last year. An absolute dream come true for me.
Although back in 2019 I was able to pull off making the space “cute”… with the mega help of AB of course… it wasn’t something I had been able to mentally or financially give my all to at the time. I just wasn’t in the head space to make it everything I could’ve and quite honestly, the same for my retail store side as well! So last year after I signed on the dotted line for the purchase of my commercial building, I decided to “make it over” once again. Starting with the retail side and now on to the event space!
A few weeks back I shared some exterior updates we recently completed and today I am sharing the first of many to come updates inside our event space. Here’s a peek at one little area BEFORE and then “BEFORE” (after renovations)…
BEFORE…
“BEFORE” (after renovations in 2019)
AND NOW TODAY!
After renting out this space for a couple of years, we learned that renters wanted more table space and a few less seating nooks. Our space is used for lots of rehearsal dinners and showers so seating for eating is a MUST!
After adding two long tables and chairs last year, we decided to repaint this side of the space and then Ab and I tackled a fun disco ball installation. It’s such a fun addition to the space and it’s right when you walk in so it’s a WOW plus it reflects light beautifully!
