I’d say that we aren’t your typical couple. We didn’t meet in college. Our first date was not dinner and a movie. We didn’t meet on match.com. In fact, the internet was barely even in full use when we started going out. Although we both just turned 34 years old, in February we will celebrate our 20th year together and today we are celebrating 14 years of marriage. At just 14 years old in February of 1996, Mark and I met in our 8th grade “team” at a middle school in Snellville, Georgia. I had a crush on the “big football player” for a while but he barely even knew who I was. And then one day he asked for my phone number. That was the absolute best day of my life. Until he didn’t call. All weekend long. I mean seriously?!? I was devastated. Like the girls who ugly cry on every single episode of The Bachelor. Clearly my life was over… 😉
Yet then several days later he redeemed himself by asking me “to go out with him” in the back of our 4th period History class. Soooo romantic, huh?!? Lol. Although that exact fact is up for discussion. Well, better yet, it’s a bit of an argument between us over the years. I say it was History and Mark swears it was Chemistry class. Nonetheless, our Chemistry took off and we lived happily ever after. Okay, yes our 20 years together have been anything but easy, but we have made it through some mega ups and some horrible downs to now living the best years of our marriage. We are the absolute best of friends and I’d say we make a pretty great team.
So here’s a little flashback to our very first date… To Baskin Robbins… With Mark’s mom…
And another little flashback to 1996…
Yea. WOAH. I must REALLY love you guys if I am sharing all of these! So today, as we celebrate our 14th year of marriage, here’s a peek at our wedding album… Baby faces, tweezer happy eyebrows, crew cut and all…
XOXO, Brittany Hayes
