Hey hey! Happiest Tuesday, people! It has been a long minute since we chatted about my home renovation but I am breaking the silence. I took a three month break on it back in August. I felt burnt out, went through a pretty icky break up, life stuff, etc etc etc. BUT we are back and its looking like move in isn’t far out. Shooting for late April. We can do this.
My original goal for the house was to do as much as I possibly could on my own… demo, frame, install all flooring, trim, drywall, refinish the floors, etc. HOWEVER, after a little bit of a mental breakdown this past weekend framing in the laundry room, I called in the pros to finish out the framing. They started Monday morning and are already finished. A job that would have easily taken me 3-4 days. Some times you just have to give in for the sake of your sanity.
We set and trimmed out all of the windows and exterior doors last weekend and all interior walls are in. Plumber is coming out Friday to walk the house and hopefully get rolling next week anddddd the painters will be tackling the exterior this week. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE PAINT. It is going to be a good week!
We replaced almost all of the windows on this place. Most of them were fully rotted through and others were cracked and incredibly fragile. This was probably one of the most challenging things yet, simply because windows from 2020 do not want to go into the frames from 1940. We essentially ended up rebuilding half of them as we went to make them work. But WORTH IT.
I removed this wall early on and found the coolest old brick stove. This will make the kitchen visible from the front door which helped to open up the house a lot. I have a really bad habit of wanting to pull walls out that essentially hold the roof up, so we had to brace it with a few lvls. I am so excited to watch this kitchen unfold.
After pulling 7 layers of linoleum up, yes 7, I found the original hardwoods… I think there were actually tears
The first door way on the left is getting framed in to be the closet for the front bedroom and second doorway is closing up for the bathroom.
I decided make the second bedroom in the house a main bathroom, so the original bathroom and closet are completely going away to open up the bedroom.
Found the original exterior brick wall inside the second bedroom wall which will turn into the bathroom which makes me SO happy.
This closet door in the front bedroom turned into a passthrough to the bathroom. There is an entry to the new closet in this passthrough.
I decided to frame in this long hallway to turn the living room into more of a cozy nook which allowed space for a hall bathroom (on the left).
Next week we will (hopefully) have fresh exterior paint and plumbing!!
