Six years ago I met the sweetest, most thoughtful and beautiful friend. Although we’d lived just down the road from one another for years, it took us both having little girls to finally meet. Kristina was there for me so much during one of the hardest seasons of my life that I wrote about on Tuesday and I am so thankful to call her one of my very best friends. In 2011 when I began creating my designs for Addison’s Wonderland, I blew up her phone almost daily for opinions and ideas on prototypes. So now when Kristina invites me over for lunch and design time, I am there.
Several months ago I posted about the progress on her breakfast room remodel in “Breakfast at Kristina’s”. Although Kristina and I are kindred design spirits who share a love for color, pattern and a touch of glam, she has trouble pulling together a look she loves and enlisted my help creating her dream room. Since her formal dining space now functions as a playroom for her two girls, she wanted to create a more formal breakfast room that is beautiful yet still functional and fun.
BEFORE
Incorporating color in the furnishings and accessories was numero uno on the list so I chose a neutral yet eye catching striped wall for the space. The horizontal stripes visually expand the space and define the area since it is all one big open space. For the stripes, I chose Simple White and Functional Gray by Sherwin Williams. Although Kristina wanted true gray walls throughout her home, I chose a warmer gray to coordinate with her oak cabinets and flooring. A cool gray paint choice would have brought out the orange in the wood and the wood would bring out the blue/purple undertones in the cool gray walls.
Once the paint was complete, we did a little online and HomeGoods shopping to furnish and accessorize the space. Although Kristina mentioned purchasing a new table or painting her exisiting one, I actually felt that the warm wood tones and rustic/masculine details were the perfect compliment to the more glam/feminine touches. With that savings, she was able to splurge on this absolutely breathtaking chandelier! See below for product sources and more of her home tour…

Several months prior to her breakfast room re-design, Kristina wanted to have almost the entire inside of her home re-painted to give it a more fresh, updated look. The walls were a warm taupe and she wanted a more gray/white look with pops of fun color. That would be my specialty!
