Today I am back with more on our recent media room renovation! If you haven’t read about our basement renovation, READ MORE HERE and then pop back over. To say we are obsessed with our new space and our new Jonathan Louis Furniture sectional would be a bit of an understatement. For me, it’s another chic, colorful and cozy spot to hang out. For Mark, it’s a “huge TV/technology freak” heaven. And for the kiddos, it’s their new concert hall. They absolutely love rocking out to Kidz Bop music and videos.
As are most media rooms, this space is daaaark. Like really really dark. There are absolutely no windows in this space and the back “media room” section is lit by sconces alone. Although it doesn’t seem abnormally dark for us, for photography it’s a nightmare. So I wanted to really illuminate this space so that I could fully share with you the beauty of our new Bella Navy Pia Sectional from Jonathan Louis Furniture. My sweet friend Loria with Loria Crews Photography came by one day last week to save the day with her photography lighting. So here’s my new and improved media room photography…
Over the last several years, Mark and I have really tried to focus more on us and our marriage. After being together for almost twenty years (yes, we were 14 when we started dating), we fell on some really hard times about three years ago. As most of you with little ones can probably relate, date nights for us are pretty few and far between. Since Addison was born, our weekends have become less about us and more about play time, potty training and cleaning up the house chaos that is having little ones at home. Amidst all of the diaper changing and nose wiping, we kind of forgot about us. My idea of romance was getting dressed up, hiring a sitter, dinner, shopping, a movie… And since those nights became even sparser once little Winnie came along, our marriage suffered. So we made a decision. We will implement a somewhat “strict” bedtime of 8pm and the next two or so hours will be about us. Almost every night of the week. And to be quite honest, I’ve gotten to where I so look forward to our evenings together.
Our typical evening looks about like this… dinner, bath-time, family time and then Winnie always wants her mommy to put her to bed and Addie always wants her daddy to put her to bed. So every night we split bedtime duties and meet in the living room. We pick one Netflix series at a time and we literally watch it on marathon every evening until the series is complete. We started with Breaking Bad a couple of years ago and it has become “our thing”.
So now that our media room is complete, we take the baby monitor and maybe even a glass of wine every now and then and off we go! It’s our little late night date spot in the privacy of our own home. I highly recommend it.
XOXO, Brittany Hayes
