Ditch. The. Glass.
There’s one thing you may not find much of around our home. Let me give you a hint… It’s shiny, fragile and extremely reflective. As strange as it sounds, when I purchase a frame I ditch the glass. I literally take it out and throw it away. Quite a few years ago when we had Addison’s 18 month photography done by an amazing local photographer, Helmuth Photograhy, I purchased a large, mounted, metallic finish print from her that was framed without glass. From that moment on, I was hooked.
Here are some current examples in our home…
Step By Step Instructions
So where do I get them and how do you order? My favorite website for ordering pictures is mpix.com. They offer mounted photos in numerous different finishes. I absolutely love the unique metallic finish that they offer. It shimmers beautifully in the light and really captures the coloring in the images. In addition, I also get them mounted on single weight matboard. The photos are thick and rigid enough to stand alone without glass holding them inside the frame. This matboard also allows the metallic finish to really be showcased without the glass hiding the finish. Here’s the details on ordering…
1. Go to mpix.com, click “Prints and then “Get Started” on the lower bottom right.
2. Click “Add Photos”.
3. Click “+” under “Select your photos”.
4. Open all image files and click “Upload” on the lower right side.
One thing I love about mpix is that once the image is loaded, it tells you the maximum suggested size for the size of the file.
5. Next, click each image one by one that you would like to order and then enter the quantity of each size on the right side and click “Add To Cart”.
6. Once you’ve added them all to the cart, first click “Add Mount or Frame”.
7. Select “Single Weight Matboard”.
8. Next click “Metallic” under the Paper Chart.
Now you are all set to order!

Darn! Just took advantage of their sale last week and ordered a bunch of photos. Wish I knew this trick before! Love mpix though.
Awe well maybe next time! Thanks for reading!!
Love the frames! Who makes them?
The frames are by My RedHead Designs which are now out of business unfortunately. Thanks so much!
Those prints are so gorgeous! I love the color that pops out of them. I took out the glass of my picture frames for a blog post, because of the glare. I loved the look of the “no glass” and have done it in the rest of my home. I worried it looked weird, but I think it allows the picture to shine.
Yes, totally agree! Thanks so much for reading! XOXO
