Happy Happy Happy Happy FRIDAYYYY! Mark and I are in route to Colorado as we speak this Friday morning but right now it is currently Thursday evening and I am switching off between packing and writing this post. I keep coming back to editing pictures and writing rather than packing. Because well… cold weather. Ughhhh I seriously cannot even handle the thought of cold weather. I would seriously rather live on the surface of the sun than Antarctica. Basically. BUT one of my blogger besties lives in Colorado and she is building the most gorgeous new home SO Mark and I have to come visit. AND another friend that I “met” through my adventures on Shark Tank also has a home in Colorado so we thought we would just pop over and see them both! In March. Brrrrrrrr….

Today I am soooooo excited to share an “Our Historic Wonderland” project that has been in the works for quite some time now…. window treatments!!! Did y’all now that I actually had a window treatment “workroom” in college? Yep, paid my way through college quite a few years making drapery for friends and family and referrals in the guest bedroom of our home. Mark made me a table, I bought a used sewing machine, took some lessons from Mark’s mom and the rest is history! I even sold some on eBay! Back in the day when there were like twenty auctions for one product and not 20,876,789. The point of sharing that story is simply to say that I LOOOOVE window treatments. Always have and always will. The perfect finishing touch to a space and that pop of warmth and cozy and elegance that almost every room needs. And wants. Yes, your home is basically asking for good drapery.

Hehe okay but seriously though, I have been dying to add that soft touch of fabric to our living and dining rooms. I knew it would make such a huge difference but I just honestly hadn’t even had a chance to do any fabric hunting. The ceilings in our 1905 home are almost 12′ high so finding finished panels is basically impossible. Well, it is completely impossible. Soooo I did a little fabric shopping online and after sending back two fabrics that did not end up being the correct colors in person, I finally found two fabrics that I LOVED… THIS Natural Linen Fabric for our dining room and THIS Winter White Velvet Fabric for our living room. I also found a wonderful local drapery lady and FINALLY had drapery panels made for our open living/dining room space. Next of course we needed drapery hardware. Beautiful hardware that would look perfect in this large, elegant space. Rods thick enough to not get visually lost with our high ceilings and custom sizes to fit the strange widths of our 113 year old windows.

The Kirsch brand dates back to the invention of the first flat curtain rod and the first telescoping rod by Charles Kirsch in 1907. Today, Kirsch is noted for a fashion forward line of Blinds & Shades, Decorative Hardware and Basic Hardware. The company was organized for the purpose of perfecting, manufacturing and patenting the simplest and most serviceable rods for modern draping needs. Being distinctive in design and finish, it met the demand for a strong, practical and durable rod. The Kirsch rod would not sag, tarnish or rust and its telescoping ability made fitting any size window possible. Kirsch immediately began packaging these rods, complete with brackets, and was soon shipping them to customers all over the world. And now they are also known for cut-to-measure hardware which is perfect for projects like mine! In doing a little research on Kirsch I even discovered that their rods were used in Gone With the Wind! How cool is that?!? I have seen an absolute ton of drapery hardware over the last 13 years of my design career and I can truly and honestly say that Kirsch Hardware is THE BEST! It is very well-made, in the USA, and has sooooo many products and finishes and materials.

For OHW, I fell in LOVE with their Buckingham Collection. Introduced in 1995, this line offers exquisite detailing, excellent craftsmanship and intricate, hand-finished pieces. This product is engineered to handle heavier fabrics, allowing for luxurious functionality. I chose the Buckingham 2″ Smooth Wood Poles with Starlight Finials, Brackets & Rings in the Shimmer Finish. And needless to say, they turned out absolutely STUNNING!!!! They even inspired me to finally complete our dining room and I am obsessed with the finished product..

P.S. My ultimate goal was for our drapery panels to just barely hoover the floor BUT with 113 year old hardwoods that are crazy uneven, it’s basically an impossibility to have them all hang identical. Just an FYI 😉

Does the shimmer finish of your rods/finials come across more gold or silver?

As I always say, the only journeys and experiences As I always say, the only journeys and experiences I can… and do… share are that of my own. And today it’s last week’s journey of my explant, lift and recovery. As someone who was “born” with big boobs, had implants to fill what I’d lost to weight loss and nursing to now having explanted to a much smaller size, I’ve been happy with every step along the way. It’s all been what I had or felt I needed or wanted at each stage of life and I’m not one to ever look back and have regrets. It’s just that at this stage of life, I decided the next step for me was to shed some chest. And kind of a lot of it. From a size 32G to a yet to be fully determined 32B-C! To be super honest, the pondering and deciding was by the far the longest and hardest part. With no direct reason for doing so (thankfully)… rather a combination of them from possible health issues 🤞🏻 associated with my implants to the usual back/shoulder pain to just a growing desire to get them out, I’ve felt a bit indecisive and very nervous. But last week I finally did it and I’m so happy I did! Women have so many worries and pressures and insecurities so if this has been on your pondering list as well, I’m just here to tell you that it wasn’t that bad. Any body change takes some getting used to but not gonna lie, shedding that top heavy feeling has been rather fabulous. And the cute little tops and bras I can now wear feel like icing on the cake! So from your always raw and honest IG bestie, thank y’all so much for following along and for all of the love and well wishes on stories. Means the WORLD 🫶🏻
Forget drenching your hands with straight acetone… and the hour and a half SNS process… try this and you’ll never go back! Yep, it’s the “old school” tips method but with your own nails. Takes so much less time and although still not exactly CLEAN, it’s way better than an acetone hand bath every two weeks. Plus, they’re actually much smoother too!

Where did you find the drapery hardware in your ba Where did you find the drapery hardware in your bathroom?... what about your bedroom?... living room? It’s all @kirsch and it’s all STUNNING! Scale is everything in design and sometimes the biggest “misses” are in the details.
