Our Historic Fall Home Tour with Shaw Floors!

Happy Wednesday friends! This has been the weirdest week ever. Well, really it all started last week with the impending dread of Hurricane Irma and just the overall sense of uncertainty for Florida and for our home town. And then this week has been full of storm damage, cancelled school and an attempt at normalcy. Every day I have been trying to stay caught up while also prepping our home and our family for the big day. Keep reading for our Fall home tour!

Fall is by far my absolute favorite time of year so I have been distracting myself with dragging out all of our Fall decor this week. I literally popped back and forth between bringing in outdoor stuff that could blow away and placing cute little pumpkins throughout the house. I get a little bored and sidetracked. LOL. I can honestly say, tropical storm weather aside, that I LOVE living in Georgia. We have the best weather ever and our Falls are stuff that dreams are made of. So I love to bring that Georgia beauty inside our home too!

For some reason ever since we moved into Our Historic Wonderland last December, I have been struggling with accessorizing! Yes, the least important thing on Earth BUT as a designer it is usually something that I LOVE! I have never considered myself a minimalist but having less out has made me so happy in this home! We were so busy when we moved in that our boxes sat for quite some time and having so little in the house made life so easy! I also think it has a huge something to do with the fact that our home has such beautiful historic features and so much character. Absolutely what made us fall in love with our 1905 beauty to begin with and something we have tried to accentuate further through finishing touches. One major thing that I LOVED about the few original features remaining in our gutted home were the 111 year old hardwoods. They run from our foyer through our living/dining rooms into the kitchen and down the hallway. I SO wish we had more but we definitely did our best to restore what we had. I knew I wanted them to be light since dark hardwoods were an absolute nightmare at our old home but I wasn’t sure of the exact color until I saw ours sanded down. The natural color was BEAUTIFUL! Although it surprisingly took some time to figure out a way to stain/seal them and keep the white ashy color, we finally figured it out and they turned out stunning! You can read more about that process HERE. SO once those were finished I decided I wanted to replicate that finish with pre-finished hardwoods in much of the rest of our home. Another aspect of our restoration that was way more difficult than I imagined! Until I discovered Shaw Floors…

I promise you that I looked EVERYWHERE for solid hardwoods that were pre-finished in a whitewashed finish. Impossible. Everything that I loved was laminate and for us, that just wasn’t something that we really wanted in our historic home. Although we will be using the heck out of them in our cabin renovation! I did however find not one, not even two but A DOZEN from Shaw Floors that I LOVED! I went from having zero options to more than I could choose from! I get asked a lot if I still love them and I can honestly say that they are one of my favorite things about our home. Not to mention that fact that I could go a month without vacuuming and you wouldn’t even be able to tell!

Now let’s chat about Shaw Floors. I have had the honor of being a member of their StyleBoard since 2015 and they are the best company I have ever worked with. Ever. I joke with Mark all of the time that I am just going to quit blogging one day and just go work for Shaw ;-). Two hour drive and all. Their StyleBoard is made up of eight super talented bloggers and we have had the amazing opportunity to get together numerous times now at Shaw events. So when they organized this Fall tour I was even more excited to work with everyone on my blog! Yesterday my sweet friend Heather with At The Picket Fence who is also here in Georgia shared her beautiful home and tomorrow you will have to pop by to see Cassity with Remodelaholic’s gorgeous home too! There will be a new Fall home tour everyday and sooo many gorgeous Shaw Floors selections to see as well!

Here is a peek at some of our home minimally decorated for Fall 😉 AND a look at some of our BEAUTYfull Shaw Floors!

Beautiful! I never had a clue what hard work preparing and cleaning up from a hurricane is. Live in Florida now and I know all to well. So grateful we did not get what they were predicting. Feel awful for the people that did.

So over the moon happy to share that yesterday THI So over the moon happy to share that yesterday THIS HAPPENED 💍 for the other half of AW ♥️ The last three years have been something CRAZY for Ab and I but getting to not only witness but to also play a part in one of the happiest days in each of our lives over these last twelve months has been nothing short of PURE MAGIC ✨ Looking back at all of the tears and uncertainty and heartache we’ve each experienced “together” it feels kind of unreal that each of our fairytales have officially come true… absolutely INCREDIBLE, genuine, steadfast men that we both get to call our FOREVER AFTERS 🥰 There is truly NO ONE more deserving of a fairytale than Abigail. She’s more positive adjectives than will fit on this post… basically every single one in the dictionary… and then some. And believe me when I say that if Jess wasn’t absolutely perfect for her, I would’ve thrown myself on the sidewalk for all she’s done for me. These two love birds are the ABSOLUTE CUTEST EVER and I could not possibly be more thrilled for them and the countdown to their big day…. ♥️♥️♥️

My first true outdoor design project is coming to My first true outdoor design project is coming to life ♥️ And I’m IN LOVE! When John and I made the decision to keep my home and make it OUR HOME for the long term, I decided I wanted to bring the European vibes y’all know I LOVE into our own backyard. It quite honestly wasn’t even as much about adding a pool as it was about the vibe I’d been dreaming up as a whole. Wanting to create an outdoor space that felt warm, inviting, whimsical and elegant. All of the things I try so hard to evoke with my style. A place we can keep our now family of six entertained or just a place John and I can sip coffee in the mornings or wine in the evenings as our kiddos are growing up way way too fast. Bringing what we love about the inside of our home to our fabulous backyard. Thank y’all for following the progress over on stories the last few weeks! It’s far-ish from done for me but you did say y’all wanted to see more pictures on my feed… 😉 Work done by @garrisonmessick and @connergrading ♥️
Y’all voted… MORE PICTURES IT’LL BE! And why Y’all voted… MORE PICTURES IT’LL BE! And why not a little design advice and room details with every post too! 💗 I’m often asked if someone wants to start implementing a more colorful, pattern filled style in their home, where do you even begin? I think the best place to start playing around and living it up is sometimes the smallest of spaces where it’s “okay” to play it up! Laundry rooms, powder rooms, mud rooms and of course kids rooms can be great place to start. I mean, who doesn’t love walking in the door from a busy, stressful day into a vibrant, fun mudroom?!? A few details… The trim color in here is a color I created for our kitchen six years ago now that I am still completely obsessed with. It is a 50-50 mix of Sherwin-Williams Uncertain Gray and Stardew. Both at full strength. It is the most perfect gray blue and it never gets old! Also, this wallpaper is available at shopaddisonswonderland.com and I also blogged a full detail tutorial on how we created this penny tile floor writing. Search “penny” on my blog under the Menu. Happy Weekend!
Okay I have to ask… PICTURES OR REELS? I’m so Okay I have to ask… PICTURES OR REELS? I’m so torn! I joined Instagram to share and be inspired by beautiful designs but I also love sharing the process and progress of it all on a Reel. HOWEVER, sometimes I’d love to just scroll and not have my phone blast a new song at every finger swipe. Anyone with me??? For today, sharing our newly completed living room ♥️ Feels so good to call it DONE! HAPPY WEEKEND!!! P.S. If you’ve been following along on stories we are doing lots in our newly landscapes backyard from filling it with furniture to filling pots to place around the pool. Hope you’ll follow along! I knew I wanted to go with leather in this space and the #SvenSofa from @article blew my expectations out of the water. This room is constantly used for game nights, late night hangs with the girls, and the occasional lazy Sunday nap AND it is SO dang cozy. Who's coming over for dinner??? #ourarticle Swipe to see where this room AKA the “Key Lime Pie Room” started… who else loves those office lights?!?
