Our Historic Fall Home Tour with Shaw Floors!

Happy Wednesday friends! This has been the weirdest week ever. Well, really it all started last week with the impending dread of Hurricane Irma and just the overall sense of uncertainty for Florida and for our home town. And then this week has been full of storm damage, cancelled school and an attempt at normalcy. Every day I have been trying to stay caught up while also prepping our home and our family for the big day. Keep reading for our Fall home tour!

Fall is by far my absolute favorite time of year so I have been distracting myself with dragging out all of our Fall decor this week. I literally popped back and forth between bringing in outdoor stuff that could blow away and placing cute little pumpkins throughout the house. I get a little bored and sidetracked. LOL. I can honestly say, tropical storm weather aside, that I LOVE living in Georgia. We have the best weather ever and our Falls are stuff that dreams are made of. So I love to bring that Georgia beauty inside our home too!

For some reason ever since we moved into Our Historic Wonderland last December, I have been struggling with accessorizing! Yes, the least important thing on Earth BUT as a designer it is usually something that I LOVE! I have never considered myself a minimalist but having less out has made me so happy in this home! We were so busy when we moved in that our boxes sat for quite some time and having so little in the house made life so easy! I also think it has a huge something to do with the fact that our home has such beautiful historic features and so much character. Absolutely what made us fall in love with our 1905 beauty to begin with and something we have tried to accentuate further through finishing touches. One major thing that I LOVED about the few original features remaining in our gutted home were the 111 year old hardwoods. They run from our foyer through our living/dining rooms into the kitchen and down the hallway. I SO wish we had more but we definitely did our best to restore what we had. I knew I wanted them to be light since dark hardwoods were an absolute nightmare at our old home but I wasn’t sure of the exact color until I saw ours sanded down. The natural color was BEAUTIFUL! Although it surprisingly took some time to figure out a way to stain/seal them and keep the white ashy color, we finally figured it out and they turned out stunning! You can read more about that process HERE. SO once those were finished I decided I wanted to replicate that finish with pre-finished hardwoods in much of the rest of our home. Another aspect of our restoration that was way more difficult than I imagined! Until I discovered Shaw Floors…

I promise you that I looked EVERYWHERE for solid hardwoods that were pre-finished in a whitewashed finish. Impossible. Everything that I loved was laminate and for us, that just wasn’t something that we really wanted in our historic home. Although we will be using the heck out of them in our cabin renovation! I did however find not one, not even two but A DOZEN from Shaw Floors that I LOVED! I went from having zero options to more than I could choose from! I get asked a lot if I still love them and I can honestly say that they are one of my favorite things about our home. Not to mention that fact that I could go a month without vacuuming and you wouldn’t even be able to tell!

Now let’s chat about Shaw Floors. I have had the honor of being a member of their StyleBoard since 2015 and they are the best company I have ever worked with. Ever. I joke with Mark all of the time that I am just going to quit blogging one day and just go work for Shaw ;-). Two hour drive and all. Their StyleBoard is made up of eight super talented bloggers and we have had the amazing opportunity to get together numerous times now at Shaw events. So when they organized this Fall tour I was even more excited to work with everyone on my blog! Yesterday my sweet friend Heather with At The Picket Fence who is also here in Georgia shared her beautiful home and tomorrow you will have to pop by to see Cassity with Remodelaholic’s gorgeous home too! There will be a new Fall home tour everyday and sooo many gorgeous Shaw Floors selections to see as well!

Here is a peek at some of our home minimally decorated for Fall 😉 AND a look at some of our BEAUTYfull Shaw Floors!

Beautiful! I never had a clue what hard work preparing and cleaning up from a hurricane is. Live in Florida now and I know all to well. So grateful we did not get what they were predicting. Feel awful for the people that did.

Earlier this week I was drying my hair and saw the sunlight shining through the mirror and had to snap a picture. I’d say our 1908 home “library” functions much better as a bathroom these days 🥰 Just might be my favorite room renovation!

It just went up in our historic renovation project and I’m in LOVE ♥️ Sharing more new renovation/design updates on stories today! P.S. We are lowering it for the actual room design but the “box installation” 😉 had it up a bit higher.

Renovating cabins together is where it all began f Renovating cabins together is where it all began for us ♥️ Looking back I can’t believe how much John just leapt right into it all with the first cabin I purchased just six months into dating but those moments are ultimately what led us to eventually take a chance and merge careers. I’ll never forget our 7am chat on the beach over Spring Break 2021 when we decided to go for it. We chose his resignation date and prayed we could make it all work! Needless to say, one of the best decisions we’ve made. It’s not for everyone but working alongside my spouse is something I genuinely love. It’s the joint passion, path, visions, sacrifices and small victories that you get to experience together that makes what we do seem less like work and more like an adventure. Of course this project is complete but y’all know me… always adding and fluffing and zushing and dreaming! Here’s a peek at what we were up to last weekend. P.S. I shared a much bigger and better peek at the newly installed and newly styled pot rail in our kitchen on the blog this morning along with a tutorial on how to drill into tile. P.S.S. @serenaandlily is having their Spring Design Event where EVERYTHING (including sale items and this gorgeous new rug) are 20% OFF with CODE: SPRING 🌺 Happy halfway to the weekend again!

Our family was blessed with the absolute sweetest Our family was blessed with the absolute sweetest and most adorable student from France this month and it just so happened to be her 15th birthday yesterday! Although I thought it might be a bit creepy for me to stick to our standard tradition of sneaking into the girlies bedrooms at night for their birthday balloon wake-up “surprise”… I did sneak in Caroline’s room while she was in school yesterday. I know it can’t be easy to be away for so long so I wanted to treat her like my own and do a little simple something. It’s been such a blessing to have another kiddo join our big, crazy family this month. Joyeux Anniversaire Caroline! 🇫🇷
