Happy June! WOW I cannot even believe that school is out, Summer is here and the year is almost half way over! Literally seems like yesterday that Mark had his ACL surgery just days before 2017 even began and we were off to a rather gosh awful start to 2017. A man in pain is no fun. If you wifies know what I mean 😉 Five months later and I am sitting on the 22nd floor balcony of our Summer condo in Portland, Oregon writing this post and Mark is home doing a secret little project for the girls as a surprise for when we return. Let’s just say it’s a woah mega surprise. AND he wants to pop in and blog about it some too this Summer! So stay tuned for that Mark blog takeover!
Although we are 2,198 miles away from home, I am still on track blogging all sorts of Our Historic Wonderland updates while we are away. I managed to prep almost a dozen new house posts before we left to share over the next month while we are adventuring throughout the Pacific Northwest. And some are even major room reveals!
Today I am sharing an update on our Master Bedroom! When we first purchased OHW, I spent approximately forever and a day figuring things out. The awkward 1900’s floor plan was killing me and I just couldn’t envision us living in such a funky space. What was once a main level library and secondary bedroom slowly evolved into my vision for my dream master suite. Complete with a fireplace in the bedroom AND bathroom plus a large bedroom sized master closet! To create a dramatic and dreamy bedroom, I chose an almost-black paint for the walls (Inkwell by Sherwin Williams) and a bright white for the trim (Alabaster by Sherwin Williams). From there, everything else just seemed to POP against it!
Several months ago, about 1.5 months post move-in day, I shared a sneak peek at what I had been up to in furnishing our master bedroom. I think some of y’all were rather confused at the lack of pillows in the post. Well, basically none. Don’t worry, we had a place to rest our heads. I simply decided to throw our not-so-cute sleeping pillows behind the bed for the shoot. That’s the secret little spot I throw everything when someone is coming over or I am shooting our room and we have junk sitting everywhere. So don’t EVER look behind the bed. Hehe.
Several months later, we had our bed and dresser… finally found a rug that I loved… an emerald loveseat for the foot of the bed… and my vision was starting to come to life. Except I was still missing a mega bedroom element… PILLOWS! I had searched high and low yet came up with nothing that I loved. As you all know, I LOVE Nordstrom to clothe our entire family! Yet did you know that they have an AMAZING home decor section as well? With free shipping and returns as well as the best customer service out there, you cannot ever go wrong with shopping all things Nordstrom! I have to admit that I sometimes get so sidetracked looking for clothing that I forget to check out their home section! So one day I popped over on a hunt for euro shams and literally found exactly what I wanted on the second page of my search… the most gorgeous velvet euro shams! From there I found the perfect throw pillows, throw blanket and even an accent pillow for the loveseat!
Before the big reveal, let’s take a look at what our master bedroom looked like when we purchased our home…

I love the loveseat and the pillows! I’m curious about two things: 1. Where do you keep the pillows you use for sleeping, since I’m assuming the decorative pillows aren’t what you use? 2. What happened to your pretty pink rug? I love the new rug but I love the pink one too.
Kate says
You should probably read the post, she throws their sleeping pillows behind the bed when she does shoots as they are not so pretty.
Brittany Hayes says
Thank you for answering! I have gotten a little behind on blog comments 🙂 Trying to get caught up! XOXO
Brittany Hayes says
Thank you so much! 1) I actually chat about it in the post! I just throw them behind the bed. LOL! There is a little window seat back there that acts as my hidden storage. 2) I ended up deciding on this one instead. Who knows where the other will end up going! Thanks for reading! XOXO
