Once upon a time a beautiful baby girl was born. Her name is Winter Hailyn Hayes…
Little Girl’s Bedroom Nursery Tour
BEFORE
This room was originally my office and then it just turned into the catch-all/storage room when I moved my AW office into a commercial space.
Brace yourself folks, you’re about to witness one hot mess. And who said my house is always clean?!?
THE PLAN
SHOP HER ROOM:
When I was expecting our second child in 2012, I was about 101% sure it was going to be a boy. I had his little room all planned out in my head but God had other plans so I switched gears and got to do what I do best, design a little girl’s wonderland. Of course, as you know, her room design would serve dual purpose as a collection for my Addison’s Wonderland bedding company. With that in mind, I wanted to create a very vintage chic space that would be appropriate for a nursery, a toddler room, and then eventually a big girl room as well!
I find design inspiration everywhere. Sometimes it’s a random object completely unrelated to home decor, or sometimes the rooms just grows from one inspiration piece and other times a vision just pops into my head at the most random times. With Winter’s room, I found inspiration in this beautiful House Beautiful magazine cover from March 2011. I just loved the subtle elegance and super feminine flair of the space. I also fell in love with this chevron print that had not yet become the “it pattern”.
CONSTRUCTION
First, after we cleaned out the crazy mess, I got to work sketching out a custom cabinetry unit for the window wall in the room. Her room had a teensy tiny little closet and I loved the idea of having a fairytale window seat. It is one of my absolute favorite features of the room. They also installed a high baseboard and thick crown molding. Trim is something I would always suggest splurging on. Thick, beautiful molding can make a room literally look 100x nicer and more elegant. Finally, this incredible Bamboo Flooring Tiger Strand that makes the white and pink pop! We’ve gotten sooo many compliments on this flooring. I think it’s even more stunning in person too!
PAINT
The next step was paint! I found the perfect bright and beautiful pink by Benjamin Moore for the walls and a creamy white by Sherwin Williams for the trim and cabinetry.

FABRIC
While the guys were busy with the paint, trim and cabinets, I was knee deep in fabrics and trimmings designing the Claire Collection. I absolutely love mixing print fabrics. I seriously live for working with beautiful colors and fabrics. For this one, I wanted to take a vintage floral style print and update it with a more modern chevron print and a bohemian style medallion fabric.

FURNISHINGS
First comes paint, then comes fabric, next comes furniture… Of course a nursery isn’t complete without a crib. I found this Bonavita Crib eight years ago when I was expecting my oldest daughter, Addison. It was perfect for her and it was still in great condition when Winter came along. Unfortunately I cannot find the same finish we purchased but it’s still available in several other beautiful wood finishes. With both of my girls, I used a daybed in their room so I could sleep in there with them for the first couple of months. This made for a great display for the big girl bedding in the Claire Collection. I found a gorgeous dark brown daybed that accentuated the flooring beautifully (Louis Daybed). Next, I received this adorable monogrammed rug from Creative Carpet Design with her initial “W”. You know I love lighting so I really enjoyed searching for this stunning Gold Mini Chandelier that was the perfect touch for this glam, chic space. It was also the perfect height for 8′ ceilings. Since we had lots of storage in the custom cabinetry, I chose a small piece for the angled wall by her crib. Check out this fun DIY furniture piece I made for her room… The Hampton Hamper Hack.
ACCESSORIES
Once the cabinetry was complete and her room was set up, I decided to add an extra touch to the cabinets with a Trellis Stencil on the cabinet doors. For the ceiling, I chose a Butterfly Medallion Stencil around the chandelier. I feel like ceilings are always a forgotten space in design yet a little touch can go a long way! For the wall above her daybed, I wanted a unique gallery wall. I was sent these beautiful frames from Poppy Tree Frames that were made exclusively for our Claire Collection. I then went to one of my favorites stores, Hobby Lobby to create a “custom” name piece for her unique name. I found an assortment of random letters and objects to create the name WINTER on the wall. I just love how it turned out! Finally, the wall decor above her crib, mirror and table lamps were all from Hobby Lobby as well!
MEET WINTER…
On September 1st, 2012, we were blessed with our beautiful baby girl, Winter Hailyn Hayes. Her newborn shoot was done in her room as well…
AFTER
THE CLAIRE COLLECTION
Several weeks after her arrival, we shot the Claire Collection in her room with an alternative antique metal crib that really showed off the bedding. We used a sweet little baby model for the shoot and the images turned out amazing!
