My happy place is finally getting a makeover. Yes, our cabin is located in quite possibly one of my favorite places on Earth. Well, given the proximity to our home and our fabulous Georgia weather and all of that jazz. I’ve honestly never been a mountain girl. Still don’t really even consider myself one. I love the outdoors and adventuring but a remote cabin in the woods would only be something I’d love to do like once every five years. Definitely not every weekend. There is just something about this mountain community though that I LOVE. Something I fell in love with about 12 years ago and have been obsessed with ever since. The entire neighborhood is so dreamy with just enough to do that you never get bored but not so much that it’s busy or “touristy” or anything. The lake and mountain views are beautiful and we just get this feeling whenever we arrive. Like we are away from it all and in our little hiding spot. That I am now sharing with 300,000 of my closest friends 😉
The cabin I have dubbed “Our Wilderness Wonderland” for blog project organizational purposes (i.e. we don’t actually name our homes in real life) is finally getting the mega makeover I dreamed of from the moment I walked into the front door. The renovation that took a little convincing. You see, over the years Mark has acquired a really great eye for renovation and design. He obviously doesn’t envision everything I want to do to a space but he can usually guess if I am going to love it or hate it pretty quickly on our real estate shopping days. This one however took a little arm twisting. For me, it was love at first sight. A home with great bones, an open floor plan, lots of sleeping space and gorgeous mountain views. It also has a great driveway and “lots” of parking which is hard to come by in this particular neighborhood. Yet for some reason, he just wasn’t feeling it. He didn’t hate it… he just also didn’t love it. So we continued to house hunt. We looked at a dozen or more homes those couple of weekends last July before he finally realized I was in fact correct. It checked off all of the boxes on our wishlist and just needed a big cosmetic makeover. Something that we tend to shy away from in our house hunts. We always go for the ones that are basically falling over with bugs crawling out of the walls and siding hanging on by a single twisted nail. I think for him this one almost seemed too easy. Dare I say boring?!? The funny thing is that he has admitted to now loving the home as much or more than I do. AND loving the fact that this project “simply needed” some paint, flooring, tile, fixtures and furnishings. See… wifeys really are always right 😉
As you may know if you follow my blog on the regular, I am a super proud member of the Shaw Floors Styleboard. An invitation I accepted in .001 seconds almost two years ago now when we had first purchased “Our Historic Wonderland“. I of course jumped at the chance to work with such an incredible company and use their gorgeous products in our home. I get asked quite often if I still love our Shaw flooring and I can truly say 1,000% YES! The colors and styles are on point and they have all held up perfectly. While our original 1905 refinished hardwoods AND our family room hardwoods from “another company” have started to separate from the cold temperatures, there is not one single imperfection in our ten rooms with Shaw products. They are the rockstars of flooring!
I promised that this go around I would share lots more of the renovation process rather than just the “before and after” reveals so today I am sharing all of our brand new flooring! Every inch of the cabin has since been painted but I wanted to share the flooring reveal first. And then I will share the paint reveal in the next couple of days! This renovation is coming along at warp speed now so check back LOTS for updates! Backsplash was installed today and then Mark is headed up this week to complete all of the lighting… install the custom vent hood… build the master vanity… meet the wallpaper guy… AND bring loads of new furniture. Exciting!!!
So here’s a peek at all of my flooring selections along with links to the exact floors and exact colors…
