Orange isn’t the new black… GOLD is the new EVERYTHING!
About 18 months ago when we started the renovation of our new home (if you speak in IG terms “new home” = #projecthayesdreamhome), I knew I wanted a splash of gold anywhere and everywhere I could have it. Mark on the other hand was a little iffy. Although he could absolutely care less about what I do in our home, can I get a hallelujah?!?, he does have some knowledge of interior design and current trends. Owning a kitchen/bath company for the last thirteen years has kept him more in tune with current styles than the average Joe. He said he could fill a semi-truck with the gold cabinet hardware, lighting, hinges and knobs that they remove from homes on a weekly basis. So let me make myself clear… brass and the “new” gold are two totally different things. More like apples and oranges than peas and carrots. Shiny brass is not in style. Antique gold and champagne bronze on the other hand, are everything.
So once our two second conversation was complete: “babe, I don’t think we should do gold”… “yes, I am doing gold and it’s not the gold you are thinking of, it will look great I promise”… “okay babe whatever you want”, I started ordering gold, gold and more gold. Once I had gone probably double over budget, I decided to halt expenditures for the time being and some purchases took a back seat. One such purchase was a new fireplace screen. I mean, how much difference could a new fireplace screen make anyways?!? Well, I would later find out, a whole lot! Last week I got my new favorite home decor item… a new fireplace screen! So with the help of some of my favorite places… HomeGoods, Anthroplogie, Macy’s Furniture and Joss & Main, my living room is complete!
