Our Vintage Modern Kitchen Reveal…

Our Historic Wonderland

Our Vintage Modern Kitchen Reveal…

Let’s just sum up this post with… my favorite room of Our Historic Wonderland… I think šŸ˜‰

Okay, let’s chat KITCHEN! I can honestly say that this was hands down the most difficult room to design. Well, I am not sure if “design” is the correct word or maybe just the most difficult to nail down a decision! As you may, or may not, know… my handsome hubby Mark and I own a kitchen/bath company… APF, Inc. A company that we grew from absolutely nothing, with absolutely no money and zero point zero zero knowledge at the ripe old age of 21. Don’t worry it’s not near as glamorous as it sounds. At all. We were young and crazy and stupidĀ and spontaneous and extremely entrepreneurial. I guess you could say we are still all of those things. Except for the young part. That was 14 years ago. Sob. Sob. Sob.

ANYWAYS, so seeing kitchens for the last 14 years has made my want list about as long as Santa’s list this year. Add on the desire to want to create something unique. Something classic. Something vintage. AND something colorful. Yet not too colorful. And timeless. And perfect for a 1905 home. Yep,Ā my brain hurt.

So let’s take a look at the kitchen BEFORE. Well, what was originally the dining room that I decided to make INTO the kitchen…

Our Historic Wonderland 9DOur Historic Wonderland 10 Our Historic Wonderland 21

Before I get going on the full renovation process, let’s talk about a couple of things in the kitchen. Things I know you all will ask me about…

  1. Our Marble Countertops- Yes, I do NOT suggest using marble in your kitchen. Yes, I used marble in our kitchen. I am dumb. Do not be like me ;-). Hehe okay kidding. Kind of. The bottom line is that is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL but extremely difficult to maintain. We own a stone company so fortuntely we are able to fix chips and stains and such much easier than most of America. Not trying to sound whatever. Just being brutally honest if you decide to use marble in your kitchen.
  2. Our Sink- It is AMAZING and was custom made out of our countertop slab by our company…Ā APF, Inc.Ā Mark surprised me with this beauty.
  3. Our Appliances- Mark went nuts on them because it was the only thing he selected in our home (which he is okay with, not because I am crazy, well I am crazy but ya know) and they are listed below…

Refrigerator/Freezer (behind large cabinet panel)

Range

Dishwasher (behind cabinet panel next to sink)

Microwave

Espresso Machine (behind cabinet panel above microwave)

4. Our Vent Hood- I designed it and our company,Ā APF, Inc. built it!

5. Our Open Shelving-Ā Custom-Made by Blackstocks!

So here’s what we did…

1. First, weĀ closed off a doorway that led from the original dining room into the hallway.

2. We re-ran all electrical, all HVAC and restored the original windows.

3. Spray foam insulation.

4.Ā Sheetrock.

5. We installedĀ beautiful thick molding on the baseboards, crown and windows! Read more about that HERE… ā€œTrim, Ceilings and Moldings Oh My!ā€œ

6. Paint! Read more about that HERE… ā€œPaint, Paint and More Paintā€¦ā€œ

7.Ā Flooring & Tile!

Closet Flooring- Original 111 Year Old Hardwoods

8. Cabinets and Countertops!

As I mentioned above, I designed them all and our company APF, Inc. custom made EVERYTHING!

This is seriously stunning. I love the mix of the soft blue with the black and the brass. I LOVE the design of the cabinets too! That’s awesome you went with marble even though you know it isn’t the most “practical.” If it makes you happy and you’re realistic about it, what’s the problem? šŸ™‚ Would you mind sharing what the upkeep is exactly with marble? I noticed you used them in the bathrooms as well. Are there rooms that you would consider safer to use marble? I apologize if you’ve answered this elsewhere!

You are SUCH a sweetheart! That means so so much!!! Marble is much softer than granite so it cannot be cut on and scratches more easily. It also stains easier and is not heat resistant like granite. I say “upkeep” but it just needs to be “babied” more. LOL. Bathrooms are much better with marble because you don’t cut on them and don’t set hot pots/pans on them either. Thanks so so much!

This kitchen makes me feel like you’re taking me back to the 1900’s. I would love to see the cabinets opened to showcase the appliances. Are the lines on the black tiles some sort of veining? Is it also marble?

Is the entire sink marble? It’s all so stunning! We have marble in our kitchen and I do not regret it one bit! I love it, even if it has to be “babies” a bit more. It makes me so happy!! I wouldn’t have been satisfied with anything that resembled marble simply because it would have felt like it was a marble wannabe!

Gosh that’s a hard one! I’d day definitely re-sealing is super important! That is something you can do yourself. As far as staining, there are some powders that you create a paste from and they soak up stains to some extent. For chips you would have to contact a local stone company for repair work. I hope that helps! XOXO

I have always thought this but never actually wrote to you, your style is so unique I love everything about it but what I love the most is you do not care about what is ā€œinā€ right now you just put what YOU love into your home. I love your signature pops of color & tile designs, those are not things you see everywhere right now & some people would even be afraid to try something so bold!
I personally have not had the moments yet were I get to design everything in a home & decide on decor but I have always felt our styles are similar in that if you love it, you go for it!
I can not wait to see more of your beautiful, unique and bold home!

All of the things I try so hard to evoke with my style. A place we can keep our now family of six entertained or just a place John and I can sip coffee in the mornings or wine in the evenings as our kiddos are growing up way way too fast. Bringing what we love about the inside of our home to our fabulous backyard. Thank y’all for following the progress over on stories the last few weeks! It’s far-ish from done for me but you did say y’all wanted to see more pictures on my feed… šŸ˜‰ Work done by @garrisonmessick and @connergrading ā™„ļø
Y’all voted… MORE PICTURES IT’LL BE! And why Y’all voted… MORE PICTURES IT’LL BE! And why not a little design advice and room details with every post too! šŸ’— I’m often asked if someone wants to start implementing a more colorful, pattern filled style in their home, where do you even begin? I think the best place to start playing around and living it up is sometimes the smallest of spaces where it’s ā€œokayā€ to play it up! Laundry rooms, powder rooms, mud rooms and of course kids rooms can be great place to start. I mean, who doesn’t love walking in the door from a busy, stressful day into a vibrant, fun mudroom?!? A few details… The trim color in here is a color I created for our kitchen six years ago now that I am still completely obsessed with. It is a 50-50 mix of Sherwin-Williams Uncertain Gray and Stardew. Both at full strength. It is the most perfect gray blue and it never gets old! Also, this wallpaper is available at shopaddisonswonderland.com and I also blogged a full detail tutorial on how we created this penny tile floor writing. Search ā€œpennyā€ on my blog under the Menu. Happy Weekend!
Okay I have to ask… PICTURES OR REELS? I’m so Okay I have to ask… PICTURES OR REELS? I’m so torn! I joined Instagram to share and be inspired by beautiful designs but I also love sharing the process and progress of it all on a Reel. HOWEVER, sometimes I’d love to just scroll and not have my phone blast a new song at every finger swipe. Anyone with me??? For today, sharing our newly completed living room ā™„ļø Feels so good to call it DONE! HAPPY WEEKEND!!! P.S. If you’ve been following along on stories we are doing lots in our newly landscapes backyard from filling it with furniture to filling pots to place around the pool. Hope you’ll follow along! Lots pictured here is on the @shop.LTK app under @addisonswonderland and about half including the pillows, lamps and lighting is from shopaddisonswonderland.com!

Goooooooood morning!!!! Ab here šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Goooooooood morning!!!! Ab here šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Although it is not Portugal, I am sharing the next best thing this morning, state side #ad It's crazy when the vision you dreamt up over a year ago starts to turn into a reality😭😭😭 Y'all, I am over the MOON about these sofas. I knew I wanted to go with leather in this space and the #SvenSofa from @article blew my expectations out of the water. This room is constantly used for game nights, late night hangs with the girls, and the occasional lazy Sunday nap AND it is SO dang cozy. Who's coming over for dinner??? #ourarticle Swipe to see where this room AKA the ā€œKey Lime Pie Roomā€ started… who else loves those office lights?!?
