Our Vintage Modern Kitchen Reveal…
Our Vintage Modern Kitchen Reveal…
Let’s just sum up this post with… my favorite room of Our Historic Wonderland… I think 😉
Okay, let’s chat KITCHEN! I can honestly say that this was hands down the most difficult room to design. Well, I am not sure if “design” is the correct word or maybe just the most difficult to nail down a decision! Seeing kitchens for the last 14 years has made my want list about as long as Santa’s list this year. Add on the desire to want to create something unique. Something classic. Something vintage. AND something colorful. Yet not too colorful. And timeless. And perfect for a 1905 home. Yep, my brain hurt.
So let’s take a look at the kitchen BEFORE. Well, what was originally the dining room that I decided to make INTO the kitchen…
Before I get going on the full renovation process, let’s talk about a couple of things in the kitchen. Things I know you all will ask me about…
- Our Marble Countertops- Yes, I do NOT suggest using marble in your kitchen. Yes, I used marble in our kitchen. I am dumb. Do not be like me ;-). Hehe okay kidding. Kind of. The bottom line is that is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL but extremely difficult to maintain. We own a stone company so fortuntely we are able to fix chips and stains and such much easier than most of America. Not trying to sound whatever. Just being brutally honest if you decide to use marble in your kitchen.
- Our Sink- It is AMAZING and was custom made out of our countertop slab!
- Our Appliances- Mark went nuts on them because it was the only thing he selected in our home (which he is okay with, not because I am crazy, well I am crazy but ya know) and they are listed below…
Refrigerator/Freezer (behind large cabinet panel)
Dishwasher (behind cabinet panel next to sink)
Espresso Machine (behind cabinet panel above microwave)
4. Our Vent Hood- I designed it!
5. Our Open Shelving- Custom-Made by Blackstocks!
So here’s what we did…
1. First, we closed off a doorway that led from the original dining room into the hallway.
2. We re-ran all electrical, all HVAC and restored the original windows.
3. Spray foam insulation.
4. Sheetrock.
5. We installed beautiful thick molding on the baseboards, crown and windows! Read more about that HERE… “Trim, Ceilings and Moldings Oh My!“
6. Paint! Read more about that HERE… “Paint, Paint and More Paint…“

7. Flooring & Tile!

8. Cabinets and Countertops!

Hi Brittany, absolutely stunning!!!!!! Can you do my kitchen….please
Awe thank you! I so so wish I could!!! XOXO
I’m so sooo in love with this! You did such a fantastic job melding all your wish lists together
Would you be able to tell me the width of this room? I’d really appreciate it
Thank you soooo much!!! Let me check and I will get back with you later tonight! XOXO
This is seriously stunning. I love the mix of the soft blue with the black and the brass. I LOVE the design of the cabinets too! That’s awesome you went with marble even though you know it isn’t the most “practical.” If it makes you happy and you’re realistic about it, what’s the problem? 🙂 Would you mind sharing what the upkeep is exactly with marble? I noticed you used them in the bathrooms as well. Are there rooms that you would consider safer to use marble? I apologize if you’ve answered this elsewhere!
You are SUCH a sweetheart! That means so so much!!! Marble is much softer than granite so it cannot be cut on and scratches more easily. It also stains easier and is not heat resistant like granite. I say “upkeep” but it just needs to be “babied” more. LOL. Bathrooms are much better with marble because you don’t cut on them and don’t set hot pots/pans on them either. Thanks so so much!
Very dissapointed went through 50 pages to never find away to order. Got exhausted.
This kitchen makes me feel like you’re taking me back to the 1900’s. I would love to see the cabinets opened to showcase the appliances. Are the lines on the black tiles some sort of veining? Is it also marble?
Awe that’s so sweet thank you! It was definitely the goal! Yes, I may post that view sometime too! Also, yes the tile has marble veining. Thanks again! XOXO
I’ve been so excited to see this and I’m not disappointed!
Where did you get the brass shelves. I’m in love with them!
Thank you Jessica!!! They’re from Blackstocks which is a local company. I linked their website above. Thank you!!!
Is the entire sink marble? It’s all so stunning! We have marble in our kitchen and I do not regret it one bit! I love it, even if it has to be “babies” a bit more. It makes me so happy!! I wouldn’t have been satisfied with anything that resembled marble simply because it would have felt like it was a marble wannabe!
It is! Our stone company custom made it from our countertop slab. It is literally a work of art! XOXO
Ummmm, would you believe me if I told you I have tears?? TEARS!!!! Lolol!!!! I am a total dork and I am SO STINKING PROUD OF YOU!!! Every facet of this is to die for!!! The combination of styles is just magic, Brittany! MAGIC!! Those chairs!!! That hood! THE BEADED LIGHT! That tile wall!!! The sink! Holy heart eyes! Kudos, friend!!!!!!!
Holy cow girlfriend!!! Have I mentioned yet how much I LOVE YOU?!? No really though! You are my biggest cheerleader and I appreciate you SO much! XOXO
Girlfriend. I mean just unbelievable. Love the black and gold, the lanterns, the cabinet color, the marble. Ok I love everything!
Thank you SOOOO much!!! You are a doll! XOXO
Stunning!!! Perfection! What color grout did you use with the subway tile?
Thank you! I cannot remember the brand but it was just called Gray 🙂 XOXO
And I can’t find the information for the actual subway tile! I’m sure I’m missing it…but what is it called and what are the dimensions?
Oh my gosh, Brittany!! I just went through each of your reveals and I am FLOORED!! I love your use of color, the changes you made to the “bones”, and every bit of design and creativity that makes it original. The charm is insane!! Dream house. So happy for you and your family!
Oh my gosh thank you!!! All of your compliments mean so so much! THANK YOU!!! XOXO
Your kitchen is my FAVORITE so far!! Oh my, it’s amazing!!! :))
Awe thanks! XOXO
I am also stupid. But I love what I love. Sooo I have marble in my kitchen, 4 years later, chips, stains and all. Recommendations for refreshing and repairing?
Gosh that’s a hard one! I’d day definitely re-sealing is super important! That is something you can do yourself. As far as staining, there are some powders that you create a paste from and they soak up stains to some extent. For chips you would have to contact a local stone company for repair work. I hope that helps! XOXO
I am SO ENJOYING your remodel. Every single room is beautiful and thoughtful. We start our own historic remodel next month, and I hope our rooms turn out as fabulous as yours.
Awe wow thank you! Best of luck with yours! It is so much work but oh so worth it! XOXO
This is a stunning kitchen, great job!!! Will you possibly give us a video walk through sometime so we can see everything behind the doors and in cabinets? Hope that’s not a weird request lol
Awe sure! Love that idea!! XOXO
Brittany, I LOVE everything about this!!! The counter tops are nothing short of perfect.
I have always thought this but never actually wrote to you, your style is so unique I love everything about it but what I love the most is you do not care about what is “in” right now you just put what YOU love into your home. I love your signature pops of color & tile designs, those are not things you see everywhere right now & some people would even be afraid to try something so bold!
I personally have not had the moments yet were I get to design everything in a home & decide on decor but I have always felt our styles are similar in that if you love it, you go for it!
I can not wait to see more of your beautiful, unique and bold home!
Wow Amanda you are amazing! Your comment means so so much! Thank you dearly XOXO
I have quite simply died and gone to kitchen heaven!!!!!! I think you can drop that mike and soak up all the applause!!!!!! xoxoxo
OMG thank you! What a fabulous compliment! XOXO
This. Is. Stunning. Just a complete dream. I don’t know how you take design to the next level… but you always do with your amazing style!!
WOW thank you dear! You are FABULOUS!!! XOXO
Hey there!! The kitchen is absolutely amazing!! May I ask, where did you get the shelving units from?? I love them!!
Thank you and happy holidays!
Thank you SO much! They were custom made by Blackstocks. They are linked above in this post. Thanks!! XOXO
So beautiful! I think you achieved every bit of what you were hoping to, congratulations & well done!!
Brittany!! I’m completely in awe!! It’s beyond fabulous and you are so talented my friend
I just LOVE YOU! XOXO
You’re kitchen is absolutely beautiful!! We are currently designing our kitchen and I would love to know where your backsplash is from? Would you mind sharing? Thanks so much!
E-mail me [email protected] 🙂 XOXO
Hi Brittany- What an absolutely stunning kitchen! Love getting to see all the new spaces in your Historic Wonderland! Question, what gold paint did you use for the hood as the accent band?
i would love to know this as well!
Just to say that your sense of classic and creative style is infinite and unmatched!
The brick on the wall, the cabinets and the custom table , the marble counter, the brass accents against
the dark colors_there are no words.
Bliss in its truest form!
Bravo! It truly resemble my aunt’s kitchen in Italy with all its fine details.
Bellisima!
My goodness you are a heaven send! Thank you SO much for taking the time to write something so SWEET!!!!
Where is backsplash and black tile from?
E-mail me 🙂 [email protected]
I love your kitchen! Did you paint or use wallpaper on the wall around your windows? The loose herringbone pattern is a stunning modern take on a classic pattern. If wallpaper, may I ask where you found it? (If paint, how did you do that?) Thanks!
Hi! I’m crushing on your kitchen faucet! The link takes me to a bathroom faucet, I’m sure overstock redirected it somehow when stock changed. Just hoping you could share the brand so I can search away <3
Hi!
I love your kitchen. What is the name of the subway tile that you used? It appears to be clear/white. I love how it sparkles!
Thanks!
Jennifer
For some reason when I click on the links for your range and refrigerator, they don’t take me to a product…would you mind telling me which ones you have?
Would love to know the source of your kitchen subway tile…Love it all so much!
I’m obsessing over the white wingback dining chairs. Can you pls share the link or source? Thanks!
What is the paint color you used on your cabinets. I can’t find it?!
