We are Getting a POOL! Sharing Coping, Tile and Pebble Selections along with Costs!
Okay, I know… I know… I have been promising this blog post forever and a day and I am so sorry! I kept forgetting to get samples and then take pictures and then… ya know LIFE. But, here it is! Sharing all of my selections from coping to tile and pebble along with costs assosciated with everything!
Deciding to make this purchase was a process. Of course we knew the kiddos wanted one but I had gone forever and ever being adamantly against the purchase. And as bizarrely strange as it may sound, I realized that aside from the obvious like cost and safety and such, it was a deeply rooted personal issue within myself. I will make this short and sweet but I try and really dig deep in my posts so here goes… I discovered that I oddly associated the purchase of a pool with a really difficult time in my life. And not only that but with the resentment of having to move, due to said difficult time in my life, only a few years after making such a huge purchase three homes ago. You see, we spent a good $60k+ on a pool at a home we thought we’d be in forever. A home surrounded by friends and memories and a home that Addison in particular ADORED. And then a shocking thing revealed itself in my marriage where we “had to move” for my sanity and being able to move on and move forward. From then on, I have unknowingly felt insecure and unstable in every home ever since. Until now.
Now moving forward with a new man and a new family and the security of forever in my mind and in my heart, I finally feel at home. And making such a huge purchase feels right once again. Deep for a pool selection and cost blog post I know but just being honest. John and I chatted about it a lot of course and just decided the addition of a pool to our home would be such a fun way to “finish out” our last three to five years with our three teenagers. It would give us lots of fun memories here at home and allow them a space to have tons of friends over and host Summer parties during their high school years. And maybe give them an extra reason to come back and visit ;)! Once we crossed those hurdles it came to two things… can we afford it (I only pay cash for things now) and will we be in this home for the long term?
Once we checked the “we will be here for a while” box, we started shopping around at pricing. And WOW have pools gone up over the last ten years!!! Everyone I called seemed to start at at least $90k and that’s without landscaping, fencing or a hot tub. In the beginning stages of deciding, I actually wasn’t even thinking of adding a hot tub but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that’s what John and I and even the older kiddos used most when we went to AnnaMaria Island last Thanksgiving.
Here’s a breakdown of cost…

As far as the surrounding area of the pool, I chose to do ZERO CONCRETE. That and the fact that we already have our entire property enclosed by a fence, saved a lot of money on this quote! I want to do a simple “checkerboard” pattern of squares (possibly stone) and either moss or grass in areas around the pool. That is something that John and I plan to tackle once the pool is complete!
My Selections…
Now for my selections… I will share my inspiration images on IG stories today as well. I wanted a really sleek, sophisticated look so I chose a rectangular pool and a dark pebble finish. I went with a silver travertine and a deep blue pool tile to finish out the look I had in mind. I LOVE how all of the colors look together! I feel like they go beautifully with the color of our home as well!

Being a pool owner myself, how will you keep the pool debris free with no concrete around the pool? I see wet feet tracking grass and mud.

So exciting! I grew up with a pool and have always had one for my kids… you are absolutely right, you are creating fun memories for your kids and a place (jacuzzi) for you and John to escape each night with a glass of wine! . Side note: I have a pool going in our new house now and chose the same coping and waterline tile! Lol. No wonder I like your design!! . It goes with our Mediterranean style home in So Cal.

I’m so excited to watch the progress of the pool! Your selections are beautiful! And I can’t wait to see how you and John tackle the checkerboard around the pool. It will be stunning no doubt!

My dad was a swimming pool contractor when I was growing up in Florida. We NEVER had a pool because he knew the maintenance and upkeep was significant back in the day. The first thing we did when we got married was add a pool. Living in GA now, we have never had a pool again and I SO miss it. You all have many years of fun ahead and all your kiddos will LOVE it!
