AW Design… A Pop of Emerald in a Downtown Nashville Loft!

Good morning! Happy Friday!!! We are back for our fourth blogging day this week (YAYYYY!) with one of our very favorite virtual design projects to date. As I shared last year, Ab and I will be coming to y’all FOUR DAYS a week now sharing a little bit of everything! Mondays will be personal and motivational posts, Tuesdays will be “Tuesdays with Ab”, Wednesdays will be design reveals and tutorials along with peeks at projects we are working on and then Fridays will be a miss mash of everything from fashion to recipes to outside interior design work we are working on like today. An opportunity for me to be all over the place like I typically am 24/7 anyways 😉

Yep, you heard me right! In ever so slightly more exciting news, Addison’s Wonderland is now a blossoming design firm (DETAILS HERE)! My very very biggest dream come true. I say “blossoming” because we are trying our best to grow slowly and cautiously as we still tackle everything else AW has going on as well as growing our team and building our “design studio”. Last Fall I decided to finally take the plunge and build the biggest part of AW yet… a full fledged design firm. I have dreamed of this since graduating from the University of Georgia back in 2005 with a degree in residential interior design and an intense passion for all things color and pattern. So here we go!!! EEEKKKKKKK!!!

Last Fall in the very beginning stages of taking on client, we received a deign inquiry from the absolute cutest and sweetest girlie EVER. She’s a single professional living in a loft in downtown Nashville and was beyond ready to finally transform a space she’s been living in for over a decade now. Ab and I seriously love working with her so so much. We keep saying we need to take a road trip to Nashville just so we can hang out! Here’s a peek at the space before…

BEFORE

As you can see, the space was all kinds of neutral. HOWEVER, she was all about adding some color and pattern along with more modern vibes to update the space. Now you’re speaking my love language! In kicking off the design process with each client, we spend some time getting to know our clients, their lifestyle and design wishes as well as always requesting a video tour of the space. What we learned from her call is that she wanted a fresh, modern look in her one bedroom loft with lots of touches of texture and color. During our call, she also mentioned that she loved the emerald color of the velvet bench in my dining room so I ran with that in jumpstarting my design process.

With each client, we spend several hours coming up with initial ideas and a mood board before jumping on a second Zoom call to get feedback on the direction we are headed with their space. This way, clients don’t overspend on a design direction they aren’t loving and so that we don’t get in too deep with design in the beginning stages.

For this project, I started with the kitchen. I knew I wanted to do a fun pop of color on the cabinets and see how she felt about a patterned backsplash tile. I knew that depending on how that went would dictate the rest of the open kitchen/living design plan. My thoughts are to always start with the most “limiting” aspect of a design which in my mind was the kitchen. There are only so many colors I’d spec to paint cabinets and tile backsplashes that will coordinate whereas the sky is the limit with her living room design!

My main idea for her kitchen centered around the idea of getting rid of her funky shaped island and replacing that with a small, narrow table that would double as an island and a dining space. Her loft is a tad small and currently doesn’t have a dedicated dining space. I also loved the idea of using this as an opportunity to add a more vintage, textural feeling element with the table. Here is my design plan for the kitchen…

Kitchen…

Left Fixture / Right Fixture / Rugs / Subway Tile / Bottom Right Tile

Once we chatted with our new Nashville bestie 😉 and got her glowing approval on the kitchen plan, I forged ahead with the living room. Both spaces are completely open to one another so coordination was key!

Living Room…

Sofa / Rug / Coffee Table / Ottomans / Left Chair / Right Chair / Lighting

From there, I turned my focus to the bedroom and bathroom. For the bedroom, I wanted something elegant and sophisticated for her. I chose colors that coordinated but didn’t “match” the living/dining spaces to tie it all together. I absolutely LOVED how the color/pattern combo came together. Kind of honestly want to recreate this look for myself!

Main Bedroom…

Lamps / Side Tables / Bed / Light

Bathroom…

And then finally for the bathroom… since the kitchen, living and bedroom were full of color, I knew I wanted to go more neutral in the bathroom. I chose two similar concepts depending on if she loved the patterned tile look as a floor tile or a wall tile. One design concept is also a good bit more contemporary than the other. Mixing styles is my FAVE so I loved incorporating all kinds of modern, vintage and more traditional pieces together throughout her space.

Sconces / Left Vanity / Mirror / Right Vanity / Tile

Thanks so much for popping by and I will be back Monday with more about “FEAR” from last Monday’s post!

XOXO, Brittany Hayes

Hi, I'm  Brittany

Addison's Wonderland began in 2011 as everything that I dreamed of for my daughter's room. I wanted to create a dreamy wonderland for her full of colors, patterns and precious details. Once her room was complete, Addison's Wonderland was born.
