I truly hope that all of you mommies out there had the MOST wonderful Mother’s Day! On days like Sunday, I always feel for those of you who for whatever reason, don’t find that day to be so wonderful. Whether you’ve lost a mom, lost a child, have been unable to have a child of your own or even just have difficult relationships with your own mother… my heart truly goes out to all of you. If it’s any consolation, my mom calls it just another “Hallmark Holiday”. That’s one thing I can definitely brag on about my mom. She has always had zero expectations on us as daughters. When we skip out on Thanksgiving to go to Disney World or decide to do our own thing for family vacations or have even been out of town for three Mother’s Days in a row, I have NEVER had to hold my breath and worry she’d be upset. So thank you Mom for always being easy. Because easy in a crazy busy world full of expectations is pretty dang amazing.
My hair is my thing. It’s honestly one of the very few if not only things that I can say I wouldn’t change about myself. Although I love it, it’s most definitely a love/hate relationship. As in some days I love it and some days I want to rip it out strand by strand. There’s never a middle ground. But I do have to admit that it’s freaking high maintenance. I envy those who can jump in a pool without thinking twice about whether the two hour blow-dry, flat iron and curl is worth the one hour dip in the pool. I tried getting a keratin straightening treatment several times before Addie was born and although it did make my life a little easier, it also made it super flat and completely un-curlable. Totally a word I know.
So here I am with long, thick and naturally curly hair that takes me absolutely FORever and a day to fix. My only saving grace is the fact that I can get away with washing it not very often. So not often that I may not publicly admit the actual frequency of those washings. And since my hair is my thing, I have been trying more and more to take great care of it. Remember those years we all over-plucked and are now left with 3 eyebrow hairs? Well, maybe that’s just me 😉 So that’s kind of how I feel about highlights. A few too many years of over-highlighting has left my hair feeling a little less than healthy. A little broken, a little dry and little blah. Here’s the process of how I used Monat…
STEP ONE (before first wash)
Before my very first wash, I wet my hair completely and applied the Rejuvenique oil as a prewash. A little goes a loooong way since it’s an oil and I let it soak into my hair for 20 minutes…
STEP TWO
Wash your hair using the Monat shampoo and conditioner lathering and rinsing the shampoo TWICE in your first use. You can use a surprisingly small amount of each. I typically use 1/4 of a bottle of conditioner for each wash! With the Monat system, I used a quarter sized amount of each…
STEP THREE
After shampooing and conditioning, apply a very small amount of the Rejuvenique to towel dried hair. I use this in place of my Argan or Morrocan oil…
