Our 1908 Treasure- Update!
I’ve decided I want to invite you all over to take a tour of our renovation in person. Anyone up for a trip to Georgia? We will supply the wine. And some board games. We are always up for a night of that! I have just decided that pictures do not do this historic gem justice whatsoever. Oh I try and I try to capture it all in images but you can’t fully grasp the flow, the unique little touches and the grandeur of this historic home. With 11.5′ ceilings EVERYWHERE, four fireplaces and the most beautiful lot, it is our renovation dream come true. I’ve promised and promised to take you along on the entire journey so I am making good on my promise and showing you the not-so-glamorous restoration details. Although I looove choosing paint colors, lighting fixtures and wallpaper, the stages that we have been completing in recent weeks are the steps that truly make our dream home come to life. The floorplan, the lighting plan, plumbing plans and framing changes are the basis for updating this historic wonderland.
Here’ Addie’s bedroom… See what I mean?!?
As I chatted about earlier this week, we have completed the framing, completed the electrical pre-wiring, stubbed for plumbing, run HVAC and determined vent placement and completed some hardwood flooring restoration/patching. I want to retain as much of the original hardwoods as possible so in order to fill all of the gaps and holes from removing walls in various places, we had to choose one room to remove the flooring for use as patchwork. I went round and round between the master bathroom and master bedroom but eventually chose the master bedroom. I love the look of old hardwoods with a vintage clawfoot tub so that sealed the deal! Plus, I have an idea for painting the hardwoods in the master bedroom. You know me and my crazy colorful ideas!!!
Patchwork…
So here’s the updated grand tour and a look at our crazy cool basement! Oh and I’ve determined a blog reader ranking based on this blog post…

I can’t wait to see more photos as you continue to make progress! I did read and study them all, but I am afraid that I don’t understand it all. I am sure that it will be beautiful though! 🙂

Awe thank you so much! XOXO

Blog reader ranking is hysterical! Love it! The renovation is looking amazing! These changes are the things that people don’t appreciate enough when they only see the after. Because this stage is what is really making your historic home into your Dream Custom Historic Home! The changes y’all have made are awesome and definitely make it more open! I am so excited to follow along and watch everything come to fruition:)

Haha thanks dear!! I worry I bore everyone with these detailed posts but just trying to keep everyone updated! LOL! XOXO

I would love to come visit!! I live in Georgia as well and I live in a 1908 Folk Victorian Cottage that we are renovating little by little. OH, and um yeah, I love some wine!
Brittany Hayes says
Oh my goodness how amazing! Where do you live? Wine night sounds amazing to me! XOXO

What a charming gem you have in your 1908 treasure! Love all the changes except the removal of the dumb waiter…you will regret that one; such first world problems!
Brittany Hayes says
Awe thanks Janet!!! Haha yes well the dumb waiter wasn’t original so that doesn’t make me quite as sad. Plus with the new layout, the upstairs dumb waiter access would’ve been in our three year old Winter’s room… aka toddler elevator. SO, we definitely got rid of that! LOL! Thanks for following along! XOXO

Where is your laundry room going to be? Did I miss that? I love everything!
Brittany Hayes says
It is right off of the butler’s pantry and accessible from our master closet. Which will be so amazing I can hardly wait! LOL! Thanks for following along!

Thank you for sharing this! I think it is well past time to begin a version of, “Fixer Upper”, in Georgia! Please consider upon insisting the show be on a FREE cable channel. Whoops! Never mind, there is no such animal! Seriously, you all have made this renovation look like a walk in the park! Recognizing there is a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that accompanied genious planning and construction,I bid you a HUGE, BRAVO! I think keeping the renovation clean, this appealing to come and WORK, is indeed half the battle. I would only suggest that possibly you might consider placing reward stations. When hubby et.al. complete an assigned task (s), have a station open with some soothing blues and jazz, they can feed their needs with sliced fruits, CHESSE and bread, a tough of vino, and finish with a large cup of expresso to help them return for more fun!
I cannot wait to see more! This is going to be the greatest FB renovation,…..possibly,…..EVER! Thanks again for sharing!
Brittany Hayes says
Oh my goodness I cannot even tell you how much I LOVE and appreciate your comment! You absolutely crack me up! I’ll let you get right on that new show of ours 😉 I would love any kind of hook-up you can get! LOL! Thanks for following along!!! XOXO

I love the changes! I read through it all and studied the picture and understand, but of course it would be better to see it in person. The change from the right to left door opening in your master bedroom is so much better. One question that popped in my head is how you’ll manage to do your laundry? Will you have a laundry shoot? I suppose from your master it’s not much work but getting the kids clothes would be a little tough.
Brittany Hayes says
Wow thanks Debbie! Our laundry room will be directly accessible from our master closet which will be awesome! The kiddos clothes will all have to get carried down. Anything is better than our current situation though because all of our bedrooms are upstairs and our laundry room is on the main level. Thanks for following along!
Whitney Shortt says
I would definitely come to such a tour!! Love love love following this process with you guys. It’s going to be beautiful!
Brittany Hayes says
Thanks so much Whitney! I appreciate you following along so much! XOXO

Looks amazing! I can’t wait to see it. I am getting ready to move into a home in May and I can’t wait until I see what you do decor wise for your kids craft room. We are having a homework/craft room in our new house. And I can’t wait to see what your kids media room/ play area will look like. Because we are having that too. I need ideas and I am just at a loss, u can’t find anything I love. And I know you will do amazing things!!
Brittany Hayes says
Awe yay congrats to you! So fun! And thank you so so much! I am itching to get started! XOXO

Oh my are you kidding me with all this amazingness and that brick in your basement?!?! I’m in love over here!!
Amanda says
On the one side of Addisons room where you created more space by taking the wall back, have you thought about putting a little door and making some hideout/crawl space for her in the extra little space you do have left in there? Just an idea! Love how it’s coming along!
Raquel Meza says
Love it!! It all looks amazing. Your posts are very easy to follow btw. It seems complicated at first glance but you are very good at laying it all out simply. Great job!!!
