Master Bathroom Renovation

Once again, I am transporting us back to the year 1974.  The master bathroom in our cabin would’ve been the absolute perfect addition to the Brady Bunch home, cork flooring, orange accents and all.  Some rooms needed a touch of paint and updated lighting.  Others needed, well…  See for yourself…

CONSTRUCTION

We didn’t spare too much in our bathroom renovations.  Tub/shower- gone!  Flooring- gone!  Toilet- gone!  Cabinets- hmmm…  That honestly took some thought.  At first, I wanted to completely replace them.  Then at the last minute, I decided to salvage them and make some minor updates.  The cabinets are such beautiful, solid wood that I decided to simply cut down the tall section to create one solid countertop and visually open up the bathroom.

SELECTIONS

For the shower, I wanted to brighten the space and create height in the room so I chose a beautiful faux wood porcelain tile for 2/3 of the wall space and a white ceramic subway tile for the top third.  Using a darker tile at the bottom and a lighter tile at the top creates visual height in such a small, enclosed space.  For the shower floor, I chose a white ceramic penny mosaic that turned out amazing!  It is light and bright and really catches and reflects light beautifully.  For custom shower floors, you always want to choose smaller tiles so they can be installed slightly slanted toward the drain to prevent sitting water.  For the flooring, I fell madly in love with this rustic yet chic porcelain tile that also has a faux wood look.  It captures all of the colors of the tiles as well as the wall and trim colors.  The countertops are my new obsession.  Finding a somewhat solid white granite can be difficult because those are mostly marble and quartz options.  This Crystal White granite is absolutely stunning!

For the wall and trim colors, I continued the same colors throughout the entire upstairs with the exception of the kitchen which I will be blogging soon!  I chose my favorite white by Benjamin Moore called Alabaster and the trim is an amazing warm gray called Tweed Coat also by Benjamin Moore.

Although the bathroom is still a huge work in progress, the basic construction is finished and WOW what a transformation!  It feels so bright and fresh and I love that it is a blank slate for me to work my magic!
