Good afternoon! Finishing things up this evening before John and I head out on a little “date night”… to Lowe’s! Several months ago John made a big Lowe’s return of a couple hundred dollars and he got it all back on a gift card. As he was pulling back into our house, I was outside and he handed it to me… worst idea ever because I lose EVERYTHING. And… I lost it! Could not for the life of me remember where I had put it. So every time we’ve needed something from Home Depot or Lowe’s lately, John jokingly throws in… if only we had that gift card… HA! But today I was digging deep in a drawer and found a little crossbody I had used to quite some time and inside of it was that dang gift card! So to Lowe’s we go!
Today I am sharing Addie’s “new” balcony all furnished and decorated and ready for a good book and a cup of coffee! If you follow me on IG stories, you probably saw that for quite a few months, John was demo’ing a good bit of the back of our house and quite literally rebuilding it after the discovery of a leak… a really really big leak. So long story short, rain had slowly… over the course of years… been coming in under the double exterior doors behind Addie’s bed. We’d had her bed against those doors since we moved in because she was so young then and we didn’t want her trying to open them since her little balcony is three stories up. I also loved the layout of her bedroom that way too!
Then one day last Fall, nine years after placing her bed there, John and I moved her bed a tad and he noticed the floor was caving a bit. After removing the flooring there to take a deeper dive into the issue, he realized the damage extended all the way down to the foundation on that side of our house and had even rotted out supporting beams! It took him quite a few weeks but he demo’d and rebuilt ALL of it BY HIMSELF… he’s so stubborn… in the best way… including completely rebuilding and re-envisioning Addie’s little balcony! And since she is older now, I decided to reconfigure her room so that she can actually use it.
Using a little Switzerland travel inspiration, John found the most adorable wood balusters EVER and then I paired that with some fun patterned tile I found at Floor n’ Decor. From there it was a cozy little chair and some fun decor! Here’s a peek at Addie’s new balcony and new cozy little book reading spot…
