Good Evening! This “little” project has been a LONG time coming! As you may remember, this patio has seen a few design “attempts” over the last couple of years. When we first moved in ten years ago now, it was a grassy slope with concrete landscape blocks surrounding a steel fire ring. Then a few years ago, John and I decided to jazz it up a bit and we had this section of our backyard professionally leveled by a landscape company where they installed a paver and elfin thyme patio. And it was BEAUTIFUL… while it lasted. We think it got overwatered while we were in Europe a few Summers ago. Our area saw a ton of rain that Summer plus we had sprinklers going and we came home to a patio full of dead thyme and thriving weeds! We were SO bummed. We pondered our next attempt for quite some time… John wanted to replant the thyme while I wanted to go the pebble route. My biggest hangup with replanting… aside from the chance of losing it again and the hefty cost… was that the patio wasn’t really “usable” in terms of furnishings because once covered, it would most definitely die again!
So as most decor decisions go, I won 😉 Kidding, kidding… John definitely came around about the idea because we did love having a firepit there years ago. So pebbles it was and I got another area to furnish and decorate! One day I was perusing Pinterest and came across THE MOST GORGEOUS FIRE PIT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! I literally could not stop picturing it in this space and then in November we got it in! It’s the The Jackson Fire Pit by Frontier Designs and it is absolutely STUNNING!!! And HUGE! It is built with 11 gauge corten steel and beautifully patinas over time into a gorgeous coppery color. It didn’t take long at all for it to start to do so. From there, we furnished the space with lots of outdoor seating and a few colorful accessories and I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! Here’s a peek at our newly completed outdoor patio…
