Our Wilderness Wonderland

Can You Believe It? I Painted Our Cabin WHITE!!!

Happy Happy Happy FRIDAY!!! This week has absolutely flown by! AND I feel like once again I have gotten NOTHING done! Ugh! I was chatting in my last post about my not so great start to 2018 and it just seems to be staying at about the same level of productivity. Holding steady at about a zero. Which I do like from time to time but I am so ready to tackle 2018 that it’s driving me nuts! Between snow and traveling and then Addie being out of school several days this week, my to-do list seems to only be mounting. Aaaaand they just announced a “digital day” Monday to slow the spread of the flu meaning no school. Again. I love my kiddos absolutely to death but this momma needs to get back to work!

So today’s post will be short and sweet and honestly I think sometimes pictures speak louder than words anyways SO… Guess what?!? I painted the inside of a house white. Insert the “shocked emoji face”. Well, I didn’t literally paint it myself but I specced a home white. Which is huge for this color loving designer. I had serious doubts and second guessed myself a million and one times BUT I love it. I really really do. And don’t worry! LOTS of color will be coming it’s way very very soon.

You see, we bought this cabin and it was all wood. From floor to ceiling. I honestly do love to incorporate natural wood tones in my work but this wood was orange. Like super warm and not so fabulous ORANGE. I knew I wanted these beautiful whitewashed hardwoods from Shaw Floors and once they were installed the orange toned wood went from bad to worse. But I still seriously STRESSED about this painting thing y’all! Absolutely to death. Painting wood is a huge decision because once it’s done there is no going back! Yes, I know we could’ve re-stained it but that would’ve costed a whole lot more. I was so dang stressed that I even had to get some moral support from my fabulous designer friend Brian Patrick Flynn. Umm yes, totally being a dork and name dropping because he is the bomb. Dot com. 😉 Seriously go stalk his work and his Instagram page and all of that jazz. He is the super handsome and oh so CRAZY talented designer on HGTV who does Urban Oasis and the HGTV Dream Home. He made my entire life a year or so ago when he messaged me about our kitchen saying how much he loved it. I literally think I almost cried. Ha! We then met at a big design event in Atlanta last Summer when I was chosen as a designer for a vignette at the America’s Mart. Mark and I ended up going to dinner with him that evening and we met up once more in Atlanta several months later. AND I have had a crazy huge designer crush ever since. He is literally the nicest guy on Planet Earth. ANYWAYS, so we text each other from time to time and he advised me to go for it. He also has a cabin that he transformed in North Georgia that is STUNNING so I took his advice and PAINTED IT ALL WHITE…

P.S. The bedroom with the green ceiling was not actually the room that was supposed to get the green ceiling SO it will be re-painted white early next week. We have lots of touch-ups so they’re fixing it then. There is a fourth bedroom not shown below that will be getting that fabulous Ming Jade ceiling!

Addison's Wonderland began in 2011 as everything that I dreamed of for my daughter's room. I wanted to create a dreamy wonderland for her full of colors, patterns and precious details. Once her room was complete, Addison's Wonderland was born.
