Can You Believe It? I Painted Our Cabin WHITE!!!

Happy Happy Happy FRIDAY!!! This week has absolutely flown by! AND I feel like once again I have gotten NOTHING done! Ugh! I was chatting in my last post about my not so great start to 2018 and it just seems to be staying at about the same level of productivity. Holding steady at about a zero. Which I do like from time to time but I am so ready to tackle 2018 that it’s driving me nuts! Between snow and traveling and then Addie being out of school several days this week, my to-do list seems to only be mounting. Aaaaand they just announced a “digital day” Monday to slow the spread of the flu meaning no school. Again. I love my kiddos absolutely to death but this momma needs to get back to work!

So today’s post will be short and sweet and honestly I think sometimes pictures speak louder than words anyways SO… Guess what?!? I painted the inside of a house white. Insert the “shocked emoji face”. Well, I didn’t literally paint it myself but I specced a home white. Which is huge for this color loving designer. I had serious doubts and second guessed myself a million and one times BUT I love it. I really really do. And don’t worry! LOTS of color will be coming it’s way very very soon.

You see, we bought this cabin and it was all wood. From floor to ceiling. I honestly do love to incorporate natural wood tones in my work but this wood was orange. Like super warm and not so fabulous ORANGE. I knew I wanted these beautiful whitewashed hardwoods from Shaw Floors and once they were installed the orange toned wood went from bad to worse. But I still seriously STRESSED about this painting thing y’all! Absolutely to death. Painting wood is a huge decision because once it’s done there is no going back! Yes, I know we could’ve re-stained it but that would’ve costed a whole lot more. I was so dang stressed that I even had to get some moral support from my fabulous designer friend Brian Patrick Flynn. Umm yes, totally being a dork and name dropping because he is the bomb. Dot com. 😉 Seriously go stalk his work and his Instagram page and all of that jazz. He is the super handsome and oh so CRAZY talented designer on HGTV who does Urban Oasis and the HGTV Dream Home. He made my entire life a year or so ago when he messaged me about our kitchen saying how much he loved it. I literally think I almost cried. Ha! We then met at a big design event in Atlanta last Summer when I was chosen as a designer for a vignette at the America’s Mart. Mark and I ended up going to dinner with him that evening and we met up once more in Atlanta several months later. AND I have had a crazy huge designer crush ever since. He is literally the nicest guy on Planet Earth. ANYWAYS, so we text each other from time to time and he advised me to go for it. He also has a cabin that he transformed in North Georgia that is STUNNING so I took his advice and PAINTED IT ALL WHITE…

P.S. The bedroom with the green ceiling was not actually the room that was supposed to get the green ceiling SO it will be re-painted white early next week. We have lots of touch-ups so they’re fixing it then. There is a fourth bedroom not shown below that will be getting that fabulous Ming Jade ceiling!

Coming along beautifully! Everything you touch turns out stunning! I’m looking for a new kitchen table? Is the one in your cabin from Anthro or some place else? Just wondering what you think of it/if you’d recommend it?

The fireplace stands out so much against the painted wall! Huge improvement! My brother has a lake house in Big Canoe, so I am familiar with the type of building. Whitewashing it all brings it out of its dated look. Fabulous!

I think you made the right choice painting it white. I was actually wondering if you were going to do something about how orange it was especially up against a different color wood floor. Looks great so far! Enjoying the progress 🙂

My husband and I bought a cabin in Bent Tree a few years ago that was total wood inside. We promptly painted everything white and never looked back. We love the clean, blank canvas white gives. It makes everything else pop! Great decision Brittany…Love it!

I love the cabin and your house. I painted my Addison’s room Alabaster because of you. So, I want to paint the living spaces all white, warm not yellow. I had decided on Simply White before seeing this post. My question is what sheen do I use on the trim and walls. I don’s there to be a difference in color. What did you use?

So beautiful. We purchased our cabin over a year ago and have done nothing because I’m so nervous to take that leap. In addition, I can’t deep to find the “style” of this house. I wanted to include a couple pics but looks like I cannot. Is there a way to do so?
      Thanks!

I have a similar home and have been agonizing over colors. It’s an aframe home with beams and wood. Dated coloring. Seeing yours has me sold on white!!! Did you do this yourself? I have very high ceilings. Did you use a sprayer? How long did it take you. Thank you, Andrea

I’m in the process of remodeling my cabin with similar wood and getting estimates to paint the wood. What process did they do on the wood? Did you seal the knots before painting? Every painter I’ve spoken with has a different idea and I’m having trouble making a decision.

Hi Brittany. Your cabin is simply gorgeous! I am also getting ready to do some major renovations to a cabin & have a question. I’m torn between all white windows or adding a contrast to my white walls and doing dark windows. I see in your picture you have both. We’re the white ones just not painted yet or did you do a mix of window/door colors. Thanks so much!!

How did you get it ready for paint and I’m scared of height so I guess I would have to get someone to help with that. How long did it take you. I hate wood walls ceilings it’s just old and ugly. Haven’t bought the house yet but trying to figure how much it’s going to cost to get everything done before I bid on it.

We are considering painting our dark log walls but are hesitant because we’ve been told that the logs have to breathe (water vapor must be able to leave). Your work looks great and I’m wondering if you’ve noticed any problems three years later. I would also like to know how the wood was prepped and what kind of paint that was used. Thanks for any info you can provide

I have a log cabin house. I have been wanting to paint the logs. I did sand and whitewashed the ceiling which my husband thinks it looks green. I wil go over it with a flat white. I would love to go with a warm grey on the logs. Not sure how to begin ,and I am terrified. Any suggestions

Is your house still recovering from all of the gli Is your house still recovering from all of the glitter, snow and pine needles? Don’t worry… you have one whole month until the next Holiday! 🤣 We’ve been through one too many stik vacuums over the last few years but between the lack of suction and the inability to stand up on their own, they’ve all driven me CRAZY!!! Last Fall we got the Brand New @hoover Emerge Stik Vacuum and immediately ordered one for my boutique and our cabin! It is LIGHT YEARS better than any we’ve tried so happy to say… our hunt is over! P.S. It also converts into a hand vacuum with attachments for everything from vacuuming out your car to cleaning your baseboards! #HooverPartner
The perfect addition… to cozy up your kitchen ♥️ One thing about these rails is that although they are often thought of as something you hang over a stove, you can actually hang them most anywhere in your kitchen. Almost any backsplash spot, a side wall or even over a console. I actually love when people double them up and hang tons of pots and pans! P.S. If you are worried about things getting dirty over your stove, simply hang items you use often and they’ll make their way through the cleaning cycle quite a bit. Even this little basket can be thrown into the wash 🥰 Everything is linked on today’s blog post and right here…
