Hi there! Coming to you today with our very first “Nurture Your Home” project! A week or so ago I was chatting on stories about a new series I wanted to start up on caring for, jazzing up and cozying up the home you are in. As in, not letting social media make you feel like you need to buy a more fabulous home or renovate everything all the time. I am at this place in life and with our home where I don’t want and we don’t really need anymore back to back huge personal projects. I have the style and decor of our home at a place I adore and although the blogging world can sometimes make you feel like you need to redo things all the time, I want to keep our house exactly like it is with maybe just a few little additions here and there along with a good bit of old house maintenance as needed.
I won’t lie… the old me would’ve most definitely just gone and purchased new pots when we decided to clean up our garage apartment entryway for Spring. I know it sounds terrible but that’s the truth and in thinking about this new “series” I decided otherwise! I had seen the most beautiful entryway on Pinterest with high gloss black post and I decided that’s just the fix they needed! We have a paint sprayer we LOVE and use often so I knew it would be a fairly quick and easy fix.
Although John and I LOOOOOVE real plants and we have close to 50 inside our home, we have not had the best luck with entryway trees or topiaries. For both our front door and our garage entry, each planter gets varying levels of sun because of the roof overhang and they’ve just been expensive and impossible to continuosly maintain and replace. So just like we did without front door, I ordered two 4′ Faux Cedar Silk Trees from Nearly Natural and they are soooooo beautiful!!! Nearly Natural has everything from faux hanging plants to faux olive trees and topiaries. I am always beyond impressed with the quality and how real they always look plus
Then I found this huge beautiful indoor/outdoor rug for $57 and VOILA! Entryway makeover for less than $100! So first, here’s a peek at our pots BEFORE…

The Supplies…
Nearly Natural 4′ Faux Cedar Silk Trees
Our Favorite Paint Sprayer
All Surface Enamel High Gloss Latex Paint
Old Plastic Planter
Bubble Wrap or Other Filler
Filler Moss
Soil Cover Pebbles
Green Moss
Step One…
I am sure there are lots of different ways to do this but I wanted a lightweight filler for at least 2/3 of the container so I turned an old plastic planter pot upside down and then filled the remainder with bubble wrap to keep the planter lightweight overall and to make it where I would need less decorative filler.
Step Two…
I put the faux tree in place and then filled around the pot with additional bubble wrap to fill space.
Step Three…
Add fillers such as moss and pebbles to fill space with natural materials almost to the rim…
Step Four…
Fill the very top layer of the newly planted faux tree with a more decorative green moss and VOILA!
