Front Porch Swingin’

I have been really chatty lately! Holy cow I think my written details on each post have taken as long as photography and editing over the last week or so. SO today I will be extra short and sweet. Today’s post is kind of an extension of tomorrow’s post. I just decided to split them up into two and share the HOW on today’s post and the completed styled reveal tomorrow!

Do y’all remember this???

Gosh it does NOT seem that long ago when OHW was green and it was driving me crazy and we were planning walls and lighting and paint colors and molding and doors AND, AND, AND… These days I am still working hard on the inside design completion but we have also FINALLY shifted some focus to the exterior. With the exception of paint, some exterior lighting and new gates, we have done NOTHING outside. Nothing. Our yard looks like crap to be completely honest. But with the weather warming up we are getting ready to tackle some landscaping and Mark was finally up for hanging our new front porch swing (post ACL surgery in December).

HOWEVER… it was a little trickier than I thought. Apparently there are these things called rafters/studs/joists and you kind of want to hang things on them. I prefer just putting a screw in the wall wherever I want, hanging what I want and calling it a day. Mark says that is why there are 5o holes in every wall of our home. Ugh whatever. 😉 SO… Given that the swing itself can hold upwards of 800lbs, it must be properly secured to ceiling joists. Seeing as though the joists were not exactly where we wanted to hang the swing, we added a 2 x 6 that was secured to the joists to allow us to hang the swing wherever we wanted. We, and when I say “we” I mean “he”, first cut a 2 x 6 about 4′ in length. We then secured two screw eye hooks into the 2 x 6. From there we attached the 2 x 6 to the ceiling joist using 6″ lag screws. Then it was just a matter of tying the rope to the eye hooks and VOILA! A new front porch swing

So here’s a quick peek at it post installation and now YOU MUST come back tomorrow to see what it looks like finished and styled and amazing 😉
