Read my original post on our move… “We’re Just a Little Weird”
I have been excitedly and anxiously awaiting the day that I share “Our Historic Wonderland” with all of you. I am completely and utterly obsessed with this property. I literally have “visions of this wonderland dancing in my head”. I can close my eyes and almost envision the completed project. So much so that I sometimes forget what it actually looks like until we step back inside. It is gutted. When I chat with others who haven’t seen it yet, they say “are you worried about buying an “old house”?? and I think… y’all really don’t understand. It is gutted. We are buying 2 x 4’s.
The home was originally built in 1908 as a single story on a crawl space. In the 1970’s the home went through a major renovation and modification with the addition of a daylight basement. In 2002, the home was purchased to undergo complete restoration and the addition of a second story. In 2006, a carriage home was added onto the property in addition to the complete restoration of five fireplaces, a 50 year roof, a lot drainage system and new custom windows and doors to replicate the original. After the demolition of the entire interior of the home plus lots of restoration work as well as the addition of the second story, the renovation was halted in 2007 due to life changes.
So here it stands. 5,750 square feet of pure potential. With even the plumbing and electrical needing to be completely done/re-done, it is a true designer’s wonderland. Call us crazy. Call us insane. We call ourselves two kids always up for an adventure.
So here our adventure begins. And I plan to take you all on the journey with us every step of the way. The good, the bad and the ugly. Get ready to climb inside this crazy, all over the place mind of mine to see how I take a space from studs to stunning. Hopefully. So here’s a sneak peek at “Our Historic Wonderland”…
XOXO, Brittany Hayes
