Home Sweet Home

This quite possibly may qualify as one of my least colorful and most “mild” design posts to date.  However, it’s a great visual for the oh so popular grey paint colors.  Over the summer, I chose all of the finishes and colors for a family member’s new home being built close by.  She wanted something fresh and modern yet keeping with the traditional Craftsman style…

EXTERIOR

For the siding, I chose Dovetail by Sherwin Williams which is a really beautiful cool gray with slight blue undertones.  The trim and vinyl soffets are Linen.  I wanted to create an eye catching contrast between the siding and the stone so I chose a very warm colored stone called Pennsylvania by Centurion.  The stone is a “ledge” style which gives it a more rustic look.  This contrast between the cool siding and the warm stone is striking.  For the door, I wanted to have some fun and add my signature pop of color so I chose Waterscape by Sherwin Williams.

INTERIOR

For the interior of the home, I chose to stay with the same color scheme for a unified look and a very neutral palette.  Once again, the contrast between the grey walls and the white trim gives it a very fresh look and feel.  All paint colors listed below…

I love your design style! I am currently into revamping my own home from the inside out. I want to update my front porch and have thought about painting the concrete floor that leads up to the front door. Any tips. suggestions, color scheme ideas? I’d love to see the front of your house yet, but haven’t seen pictures on the blog…but I am still investigating 🙂 Thank you for all you have shared!

Thank you Michelle! Gosh that’s really hard to say without seeing it! I know I would definitely suggest a concrete stain rather than a paint so it doesn’t chip as easy. Thanks!

Beautiful choices! It looks like there are two different colors for the exterior siding (a light color on top and a dark color for the lower half). Can you list which one is Dovetail and what the other one is called? Thanks!

Good afternoon! The siding and shingles are actually both Dovetail by Sherwin Williams. They may appear different because they are painted onto different materials and because the bottom part gets some shadowing. Thanks so much!

Hi, loving the pops of blue with the door and window details! Did you add the blue detailing on the windows, or is that a window style that can be purchased? I’ve never seen anything like that before.

I love these colors so much. In fact, we are buying a home and immediately painting the exterior. I love the grays with blue undertones, and my husband prefers greens. We have a cream colored stone. We also have a big, ugly garage door that will be painted. I’m so excited, as it will change the entire look of our new house. However, I’m having so much trouble deciding. Sure wish you could help me choose! I specifically love the statement front door!

I love the color choices and I love the color of the ledgestone next to the grey. I never would have thought of that.

I’ve seen that people are asking if you used another color of grey besides the dovetail….and I’m wondering the same. If you did, what color is it? Also, what color is the white? When I search for Linen on the S-W website, it only comes up with Crisp Linen SW 6378.

    Thanks in advance!

Building a home and was looking to use mostly stone and some hardie. However, the cost of the stone is much more than expected. Therefore, I am looking to use some brick, stone and hardie that compliments. Would you provide your manufacturers and exterior color schemes for this home. It all looks beautiful together. Thank you in advance.
