Hi friends! Sharing a HUGE update to my absolute favorite yet for some reason also the least blogged and photographed room in our home… our master bathroom! I am not sure if it’s from a lack of desire to clean or what but for some reason I hardly ever post this room. I have to say though that I am pretty obsessed with our library/office turned master bathroom. When we purchased out 1905 home, it was quite the project figuring out how to reconfigure a floor plan to fit a 21st century way of life. Almost 115 years ago, kitchens were always tucked in the back of the home, closets were pretty much nonexistent and bathrooms were often shared and tiny. All of the above was not exactly on my personal dream home wishlist so I got to work doing one of my very favorite aspects of interior design… space/floor planning!
After playing around with ideas for quite some time, we decided to create a master suite along the entire left side of our main level. We turned a once library/office that opened up into our living room into a closed off master bathroom. The adjoining jack and jill style bedroom setup then became our master bedroom, master toilet room (yes, it is separate) and master closet. One thing I loved most about the idea of turning that former library space into our master bathroom was the FIREPLACE! I then decided it seemed ever so suiting to place a clawfoot tub right next to it. Although it is a coal burning fireplace so we really never use it, just the idea of it is rather relaxing. We do light candles inside of it from time to time for the same effect. I love having the warm texture of the brick in the space as well.
After completing the construction/renovation to our master bathroom over two year ago now, not much has changed in this space. I’ve had lots I have wanted to do but always seemed to prioritize other rooms since I loved this room so much as is post-construction. One thing that has been very high on my wish list though is drapery! I am such a fan of beautiful drapery. It adds such warmth, texture, beauty and visual interest to a room. What I also love is that it can really accentuate ceiling height when hung close to the ceiling. One thing that I always like to accentuate with our almost 12′ ceilings!
For drapery in our master bathroom, I chose to work with Willow Bloom Home. Willow Bloom Home was founded with the vision of bringing current trends and a fresh look to a home using custom drapes, valances, and roman shades. Quality is their number one priority which is a HUGE plus in my book for my own home as well as my interior design clients. Since I have ALWAYS loved the classic and timeless look of custom drapery, I felt they were the perfect choice to create professionally made drapery with the ease of ordering online. I truly believe that custom drapery with professional pleating and custom length to perfectly fit a space can absolutely take a room design to the next level.
For our master bathroom, I ordered quite a few samples to make sure I chose the perfect white for the space. With creamy white Alabaster walls, I wanted something fairly bright white but not too stark white. I chose Malbec Powder and the color was absolutely PERFECT…
I selected from their semi-custom line because I wanted solid white drapery that wasn’t too sheer. I also wanted to choose the length and the pleat which is soooo wonderful to be able to do ordering online! I have spent years and years as an interior designer working with local workrooms and toting fabric back and forth so this was a breath of fresh air for this busy working mom! I ordered one pair of Semi-Custom Drapery Panels in Malbec Powder with Privacy Lining in the Fan Pleat Style, 34” wide by 118” long for the main window in our bathroom. And let me tell you guys… they are STUNNING!!!! So beyond well-made and they truly MADE THE SPACE!
