2018 Home Decor Trends… Black and White & Macrame!

Hi friends! It is Wednesday and today I am welcoming about a hundred strangers into my home. Yep, I am nuts! Today is the day of my big home decor and kid’s clothing sale and I am soooo excited to get rid of everything and of course meet so many of you! I seriously feel like “stuff” makes my brain feel foggy. As crazy as that sounds. Anyone else feel that way? Like when your house is clean and organized and clutter free, you can tackle so much more? As a blogger and a designer, I tend to accumulate lots of stuff. Probably much more than the average person. It’s all part of the job to create new projects and fill flip homes and furnish our new rental property projects but to be completely honest, it kind of drives me nuts. As my blog has really grown over the last year or two, that “stuff” has really multiplied as well. So I am now trying more then ever to create purpose from the chaos. I know lots of people probably wonder what bloggers do with all of the clothing and decor we receive so I wanted to share that for me personally, I have really been trying to be more intentional about what I accept and what I do with it all. I would say at least once a month or once every two months, I donate quite a bit. Lots of course gets re-used in our other home projects and then on days like today, I sell the larger and more expensive pieces. With that money, I fund future projects to keep everything rolling but I also make sure and give back. I shared a tidbit of that on my IG Stories two nights ago. We have several children’s organizations that Mark and I are really passionate about and we are so excited to have added another to the list as well… Compassion International. I am personally really excited about this one because our girls can become involved and write to each of their sponsor children. I am always looking for ways to show our little ones that there is so much more to the world than what is right before their eyes.

So while we are on the topic of “stuff”, let’s chat about trends! Since “staying on trend” can be a huge reason for switching things out more often than needed, I wanted to share my thoughts. Which is kind of a hard one for me honestly! As you may notice from my work, I am not really an “on trend” type of designer. You will absolutely see some trendy items in my work but I honestly sometimes purposefully avoid them as well. Particularly the super hot ones. Those are what I know will die the fastest and the hardest. I also never want my work to blend in with everything else in the design world. And of course to be quite honest, I really just love to do my own thing.

World Market is truly one of my favorite places to shop for home decor. From the dining chairs in our last home to so many accessories and furniture in our current home, World Market is one of the best destinations for beautiful decor at very affordable prices.Today I teamed up with World Market to chat about two trends… Black & White and Macrame. As I mentioned, trends are not my personal jam BUT I chose these two because they are what I would consider a timeless trend. A trend that may be extra hot right now but also one that may never fully end. A classic or timeless trend. Those are what I love!

Black & White… Right when we were gearing up to start the renovations on Our Historic Wonderland, I took a trip to NYC. I had been there many many times before but this time I felt extra inspired. I took notice of design elements more than I ever had before and I really fell in love with the the classic black and white. So many of the bars and restaurants we visited had this beautiful classic black and white theme and I just couldn’t get enough! Although I always have and always will love color, I think something can be said for incorporating black and white into a space. It instantly makes the overall look feel more timeless and dare I say “sexy” while also creating the perfect groundwork for other colors to POP! I can honestly say that 90% of the overall design theme of our kitchen came from that one trip to the big city and I feel like it’s a space that turned out so classic yet also so chic and fun. I teamed up with World Market to jazz up the accessories in our kitchen and to share some of my favorite black and white pieces from their beautiful new collections…

Macrame… Definitely super trendy at the moment but also super classic as well! In my design opinion, texture is KEY! I truly feel like every room design needs a good dose of texture and macrame is a great way to add a pop of natural woven texture. From wood to jute to woven materials, these natural elements can really transform a space from looking okay to looking fabulous. It’s that thing that you can literally FEEL by simply looking at it. That element that brings warmth to a space. Here are just a few of the many macrame touches we have in our home…

Hi! What color marble/quartz is in that kitchen? And the tiles?? What size tile works best? I love it! Also, what color blue paint is the entry way? So pretty! I’m doing some big renovations!

Beautiful! What is your favorite white interior paint? I know you posted it on one of your blogs but I haven’t been able to go back and find it. Thanks so much!

Hey, I absolutely love your kitchen. Could you please tell me the name of your marble countertops. I have heard that they’re extra work to keep up. Do you find that their beauty is worth it.

Ten years ago now I started my blog named after my Ten years ago now I started my blog named after my then five year old little girl ADDISON 💗 And today is her SWEET SIXTEEN! When they say it goes fast, they aren’t kidding even a little bit. I now see her “in passing” as she goes from school to band to hanging out with friends, her boyfriend, quiz bowl, honors clubs and everything in between. I’m so crazy proud of the young woman she’s become. Top ten in her class, living/studying in France for a month this January, and then possibly studying another month living on a college campus this Summer as part of the Georgia Honors Program in French. She’s beautiful, witty, crazy smart, incredibly creative, musically talented and has the biggest heart. Couldn’t be more proud to call her mine. Love you Addison!!! 💗💗💗

Both in complete disrepair that were about to hit the market. As any crazy busy, almost newlywed couple with four kids and too many things going on otherwise would do, we said… we’ll take them. BOTH! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 Needless to say it’s been a minute but our first renovation I just named (today) WONDERLAND COTTAGE is complete! And it’s adorable 🥰 Excited to share every single space with y’all starting TONIGHT! Here’s the completed reveal of the front living room… P.S. every detail and product link is on the blog tonight! Now for how we secured it all…
1. For the garland, John secured a screw into the mortar on the top ledge of the brick. From there, he added a zip tie around the garland, and then looped the zip tied loop over the screw.
2. For the stockings, with simply hot glued clear command hooks on top of the brick. The hot glue comes off easy peasy! Follow my shop @addisonswonderland on the @shop.LTK app to shop this post and get my exclusive app-only content! #liketkit #LTKSeasonal #LTKHoliday #LTKhome

Yep, HER name is ADDISON and MY name is BRITTANY 😉 Thirteen “short” years ago I started “Addison’s Wonderland” in honor of my then three year old Addison out of a “need” and desire to be creative as a new stay at home mom. That three year old will be SIXTEEN next week and I cannot even believe how much everything in our lives has changed. Here’s to the most creative, intelligent, witty and beautiful daughter I could’ve imagined. I love you ADDISON! 💗💗💗
