Y’all it is moving FAST! Our Historic Wonderland is suddenly coming along so fast that my head is spinning! Like almost exorcist style these days. Seriously. Wednesday I will be sharing some “confessions” and you will have a peek into my reality these days. The interior painting will all be complete this week and then next comes flooring then lighting then cabinets/countertops then MOVING DAY! But first, let’s chat flooring!

I am super duper honored and blessed to be a part of the Shaw Floors Style Board for 2016 and 2017. Seriously pinch me. As you know if you follow me regularly, I do not settle when it comes to my home and my vision and Shaw blew my AWAY with their variety, quality, color AND service. They spoiled us rotten in early August at Barnsley Gardens in North Georgia and then gave us a huge sneak peek into their operations, research and development as well as lots of products that are hitting the market soon! And let’s just say that I loved their new product line so much that I chose almost ALL of it for our new home!

Several weeks ago I decided to head back up to Dalton, GA to the Shaw Floors Headquarters and take another look at the flooring I had seen back in August to make some final selections for OHW. Here is what I narrowed it down to. Oh and as I mentioned before, I chose from their R & D (research and development) Office so lots of these have not quite been released yet…

All Coming SOON!

I have gotten lots of questions over the years about choosing multiple flooring options for a home. And YES, I absolutely think it is okay to do so. Not just okay but AMAZING! In our previous home, we had two types of hardwood on our main level and three upstairs. My suggestions are: 1) keep it consistent in the main and open living areas when possible (in regards to the SAME type of flooring) 2) change it up on various levels and closed off rooms 3) try and keep it all coordinating but not too matchy matchy. In OHW, we have about 1,500 square feet of existing hardwoods from 1906 (YES!) that we will be sanding and re-finishing in a medium warm gray-ish stain. Those areas are the foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, main hallway, master closet and master bathroom. I MAY do something different in the master bathroom as far as the stain color but I am undecided thus far. That leaves us with the entire upstairs, the “carriage house” and the basement as well as the master bedroom, laundry room, mud room, family room and pantry for new flooring. Here are SOME of my selections!…

For the upstairs, I knew I wanted something warm, light and bright. The walls are Alabaster and the window sashes are Dorian Gray so I chose the Castlewood Oak in Tapestry (bottom left in flooring selection image) hardwood for the upstairs hallway, playroom, craft room and guest bedroom. Here’s a peek at the flooring AND some of those areas…

Continuing on with the upstairs plan, I wanted something EVEN lighter for Winter and Addison’s bedrooms. I want the wallpaper, doors and furnishings to really POP so I chose white walls and white-ish hardwoods. I chose Muir’s Park in Bridal Veil (not yet released) (bottom right in flooring selection image) for those rooms. Here’s a peek at those areas…

Next, let’s chat main level! For the master bedroom, the walls are black so a light flooring was a MUST! I chose the same Muir’s Park in Bridal Veil (not yet released) (bottom right in flooring selection image) for this space…

Next up, the basement! It is SUPER dark down there right now since we have no lighting and the sashes haven’t been scraped yet so these images are TERRIBLE but here is a peek. I chose an almost solid white hardwood for this space. The flooring is pictured way above and it is called Empire Oak in Astor. It comes out in November and I love it so much that we decided to wait! I have fun plans for this space and wanted a super white floor…

Next is my office! This super fun space is located above our garage in our cute little “carriage house”. The walls are white and I wanted a rustic gray-ish hardwood for this space so I chose Castlewood Oak in Armory (top right in flooring selection image). Here’s the flooring and a peek at that space…

Finally, for Addison’s bathroom and our laundry room I chose a 12″ x 24″ Glacier White tile pictured below (and top left in flooring selection image). It resembles a white marble but without all of the maintenance of a natural stone. I will be doing a natural wood custom vanity and wallpaper so the white will allow everything to POP! I also chose Shaw Floors for our mud room, pantry, guest bathroom and basement bath which I will share soon!

Are you ready for the BEST part?!? Lots of the hardwood flooring that I chose is part of Shaw Floor’s Epic Plus Series. Epic Plus is THE MOST durable and impact resistant hardwood on the market. They literally rubbed coarse sandpaper over the flooring sample at our Style Board convention and it did not scratch WHATSOEVER! I did not even know that was possible with hardwoods!

Thanks so much for following our journey and I will have LOTS more to share soon!

XOXO, Brittany Hayes
