Can I Just Invent My Own Please?!?

I swear that I am not the most difficult person ever. I honestly try so so hard. Owning a kitchen/bath company plus the five years I spent in college as a restaurant server has made me mega conscious of the fact that I do not ever want to be THAT person. I absolutely refuse to be THAT person. I try oh so hard to be easy to please. And then come days like today…

So we purchased this house you know. This house that was built in 1905. This house that was stripped of absolutely everything historic and original. This house that I am trying so hard to restore rather than just renovate. Stripped of everything except 1,700 square feet of hardwood flooring and two pocket doors. Yep, that is all my friends. So restoring those floors is pretty high on my want list these days. And so was light, ashy, white-ish hardwoods. And you know the most fabulous part? Those 1905 hardwoods sanded down to that color I have always dreamed of. Well, started dreaming of like six months ago…

You would think that it would be beyond easy to just add a clear coat and call it a day. Right?!? So I thought I was going to be the easiest flooring customer EVER. Until I saw the stains… And yes, this picture is extra awful.

Yea… NO. And guess what? The bottom is a CLEAR poly! Say wha?!? And once again, please excuse the horrible pictures. They suck. I took them with my phone in not great lighting. Anyways the bottom line is that I hate them all. They’re all too orange, too grey or too dark. Oh and the reason he did so many is because I AM doing the master bath different. And that will be a surprise 🙂

I mean, they are freaking GORGEOUS right?!? Add on the fact that they are one million times prettier in person then clean them up, add a little shine and voila! I would be one happy camper. So I text Mark “what do you do when you hate all of the choices?” LOL. And he replies exactly what he did when we were painting the exterior “Invent your own paint like you always do…” So that is what I did. I created my own stain. Stay tuned for the samples they’re painting in the morning! And say a prayer that I like at least ONE of them! Mark AND the flooring crew may hate me if I don’t 😉
