Our Little White Cottage
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a FABULOUS weekend! Ours was pretty low key which is always so so nice. Let’s just say that we’ve had a TIME getting sheetrock started. We have had FOUR different crews lined up and each one has refused the job. I’m like “WHA?!?” I’ve never heard of such in my life. Apparently the house is a big, crazy combination of super old (i.e. old studs), big, high ceilings and funky angles. Saturday morning the kiddos and I flitted around town while he was at work and then we hung out poolside at my brother-in-law’s parent’s house for the rest of the day Saturday. I finally broke down and bought Winnie a puddle jumper and it was pretty much life changing. Why on Earth did I not do this sooner?!? I think I somehow thought that since Addie knew how to swim at 3, Winnie would basically inherit this ability and would magically start swimming this Summer. Ain’t happening. Sooo puddle jumper it is and she LOVED IT. Oh and then remember that awful eye injury she got several weeks ago? Well, it is finally healing up and then she literally walked into the corner of a pool table Saturday night. The kid is a walking injury. I feel like my heart is on constant worry alert.
Today I am SO excited to finally start sharing our Project Lakehouse Flip reveal at beautiful Lake Oconee, GA! It’s done-zo. FI-NA-LLY! It was one of those projects that seemed to linger. From the drainage/flooding issues to the painting debacle to the constant “people don’t do what they say they’re going to do” crap, it all took a wee bit longer than we expected. Last Thursday Winnie and I drove down to take the final “AFTER” pictures so I will be sharing them all as well as the house listing all this week! So here’s a peek at this lakeside beauty before…
Lakehouse Exterior BEFORE
Exterior IN PROGRESS
As you can see, the exterior was rather dilapidated. The back porch was giving up on life and the curb appeal was non-existent. We didn’t have a huge budget for the outside so we simply added a gable and railing to the front porch and then it was paint and DIY shutters from there!
First up, PAINT…
I chose Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore for the siding and Onyx by Benjamin Moore for the window sashes. And here’s where the paint debacle began. We used a “new to us” painter and he did not understand what sashes meant. So he painted ALL of the window trim Onyx and it looked terrible. But we did finally get our painter out there to fix all of the mishaps last week. The sashes are what we have painted dark on our personal home as well. You can see that HERE. I always describe sashes as the part of the window frame that moves. It’s the flat wood part that is attached to the glass. That’s my fancy description ;-). Then for the front door, I just HAD to add my signature pop of color with Stratton Blue by Benjamin Moore. So here’s a peek at the construction process…
Exterior AFTER
And here it is TODAY! And yes, the new landscaping needs to mature and fill in some. The grass was just re-seeded and also needs to be cut. It was literally just finished. But hey, I am the house girl. Not the yard girl ;-)…
XOXO, Brittany Hayes
