Good Evening! Just finished up dinner and am finishing up this post so I can post my paint and wallpaper selection process reel on IG tonight! I decided this time to change things up and instead of posting a… “help me decide… A, B, C or D?” type reel… to actually share a behind the scenes of how I begin a new design and how I decide on everything. I will say that it was a challenge to sum that up with editing into a reel that was under a minute and a half but I think it’s a good little snapshot at my process. You’ll have to let me know what you think!
So, first things first… remember this space?

Yep, my first boy’s room design and a space that went absolutely CRAZY on Pinterest! I had so much fun designing this space. It was sooooooo out of my wheelhouse and I had to dig real deep but I always love a good design challenge. So here’s a peek back at our garage BEFORE we converted it into a two bedroom “apartment” for my stepsons…

And then last week when we took it down… sniff, sniff. Yep, hard to believe but the time had come. Austin, John’s oldest, who was 13 when we started dating just started his sophomore year of college… moved into a house with a few friends for the next three years… and took quite literally EVERYTHING except for this mural with him! Which made me so happy that he loved it all that much. He actually wanted to take the mural too but we didn’t think we could transport it that far. And we honestly didn’t think we could even get it down without destroying it! But we did and I donated it to a local family.

So now on to our next project… converting his room and living room space (not pictured here) into a new “guest house”! With John’s mom and even grandkids in mind!

For this space (the bedroom portion), I was inspired by a few things. One, this wallpaper on the top left that I had seen and loved and saved a few months back when I was looking for wallpaper for another project. And then a couple of weeks ago I found an image on Pinterest that incorporated sage green with a deep rust color and I fell in LOVE!!! I then saw that the wallpaper I loved came in a deep reddish color so I knew that would be my inspo and my color scheme!

And then for the renovation of this space, we actually decided to pull up the LVP we had in here and replace it with a wood look tile. I prefer the more “substantial” feel of tile in here rather than the vinyl flooring. Here are a few we considered….

And then lastly, changing up the garage door color! I haven’t selected anything for that just yet but kind of thinking maybe a color similar to my pants here! I always accidentally dress how I design…

Come by IG tonight and check out my newest reel to see more! Thank you for being here!
