Guess what friends??? I have officially started to tackle the interior design of Our Historic Wonderland. Finally. Like officially officially. I know that probably sounds crazy given the twenty posts I’ve done on decor and such. But for me, I look at interior design like art. True artwork. And for that I have to focus. To take one room at a time and give all of my creative juices to that one space. To think about every detail. To layer colors and patterns and furnishings and accessories and make it my own.
As I’ve chatted about quiet a few times before, Winter’s bedroom (well besides our kitchen because you kind of HAVE to do that first to live and function and stuff) was first on my list. Not sure why other than the fact that I fell in love with this wallpaper and it kind of all started to come together in my head after that. I get asked A LOT how I tackle design. How and where to even begin with a space. So typically when I am designing a home, or even just a room, I spend days LITERALLY perusing around the internet and local stores to take a mental inventory of what I love. Items that speak to me and color schemes that inspire me. I take pictures on my phone and I screenshot ideas and I pin lots of things and I basically just get my brain full of all of the options. So then once I find THAT thing, that inspiration piece that I cannot live without, I just spit out the rest of the design around that one “thing” from everything else I have inventoried in my head. Yep, that likely makes no sense at all. So let’s first take a peek at Winter’s bedroom BEFORE…
So having officially confused the heck out of you, my plan for Winter’s bedroom actually began waaaaay back when when (do you use when twice??) we were first renovating OHW. I knew I wanted something very girlie and vintage-y and colorful so I chose a very rustic wood ceiling and muted rose quartz doors for my love of playing with textures and combining unlikely design elements. From there I found this wallpaper that I literally ordered the moment I saw it. Which I just about never ever do. It fit my plan so perfectly and was the perfect whimsical “neutral” backdrop for my future plans. And yes, I just called this wallpaper neutral. To me, blue and white is the PERFECT neutral.
Once the wallpaper was installed, I ordered these two amazing full sized headboards I had saved on my phone from my “inventory” search. I chose them for the amazing texture and fun design as well as the bright white color which will set off said future plans.

Whew, so that is a peek inside my brain thus far. So what came next??? MATTRESSES! That thing that I always forget about when I am budgeting a space yet the thing that I am thankful I splurged on come 11pm every night. Did you know you spend at least 1/3 of your life sleeping? Think of all of the money we invest in the things we do the other 2/3 of our days yet we tend to forget about that other 33%! Since this is our forever home, we think ;-), I really wanted to invest in things for the long term. Things that matter. Less on random hauls at Target (hehe) and more on quality products that make our lives better.
Gelfoambed manufactures an affordable luxury line of gel memory mattresses in the USA. Gelfoambed, the fastest growing mattress company on the internet, was actually featured in January’s Better Homes & Gardens as the expert’s top queen mattress pick! And guys know I LOVE BHG! Did you know that memory foam is now obsolete? Today’s serene foam is revolutionizing the next generation in comfort. What makes serene foam so comfortable is the new supportive air technology that increases the level of support without compromising comfort. Think less pressure and more comfort. And what I also LOVE is that serene is not temperature sensitive. It releases body heat keeping your mattress cool and dry.
For Winter’s room I chose Gelfoambed’s 12″ Miranda Medium Plush Gel Memory Mattress. Kind of like Goldilocks’s not too hard and not too soft mattress hunt. It is loaded with comfort and support plus it is less temperature sensitive than a standard mattress AND it is extremely durable. Let me just say that it is craaaaaazy cozy. Mark and I don’t love the mattress in our master bedroom at the moment so we have each slept a night in her room since we set it all up on Saturday. Winnie begged him to sleep with her again last night and shortly after he went upstairs he texted me (and I quote) “Get us a bed like this tomorrow” and then “It’s like laying on a cloud” and then “OMG” and then a slew of cloud emojis. So basically we love it. And so does Winnie.
So here’s a peek at her room TODAY! (well plus some sheets and blankets of course)
