Happy Monday! Twelve days until we leave for Oregon… but it’s not like I am counting down or anything crazy like that 😉 12 days… That seems so super quick which IS exciting but that also means just 12 days to finish a million and one things. And pack. For over a month. I have definitely never done that before! Oh and if you have not popped over and read about our trip yet, I could definitely use some recommendations so read and comment away!
First, I hope everyone had THE BEST Mother’s Day weekend. Whether you are a mom, were a mom, have a mom, had a mom or are longing to be one, I hope it was wonderful in every way. Yesterday was relaxing and laid back and wonderful. Church then lunch then relaxing around the house and then a big ol’ amazing dinner cooked by none other than chef Marky. I have now been blogging for almost two years now so I think it’s time to call him what we all really call him in real life… Marky. I even had a grill spatula etched with “Chef Marky” back when we were 20 years old and about to get married. So young and so crazy 😉

And then let’s hit rewind one more day and chat about Saturday! It has now been exactly four and a half months since Mark’s ACL surgery so exactly four and a half months since my last “Honey Do List” was completed. We felt I felt it was JUST the right amount of recovery time to begin those lists once again. Which just so happens to also be JUST in time to get the house ready for a huge baby shower I am hosting for my sister next weekend. Coincidence? I mean maybe 😉 Oh and I made a list. One heck of a list to be honest. I had one growing and building for quite some time actually. The cutest part is that he took the list and wrote next to each thing what tools he needed and what day he was going to do it. I kind of wanted to frame it.
Today I am super duper excited to share our back porch makeover! As you all know I am a total picture freak yet Mark and I both somehow managed to get zero point zero pictures of our back porch before we moved in. Zero. Well except these of the exterior…
SO we are going to play a little game. Close your eyes and picture a porch that was built 100 years ago. A porch that looked terrible and hadn’t even been touched WHATSOEVER in the last ten years. Okay now open and that will be my “before” photography for this post. Although the exterior of our home and all of our beautiful porches are one of my favorite things about our Southern historic home, we have honestly neglected the back porches since moving in last November. It has been cold and then rainy and then they were covered in one big sheet of yellow pollen. SO once allllll of that finally ceased, I decided to tackle a big back porch makeover. I partnered with one of my faves, World Market, to turn our newly renovated yet still empty covered porch into my signature color and pattern filled haven…

As you may remember, we had this amazing hanging swing we had purchased for the back porch in our former home. Oh and if you are new-ish to my blog and you have never read about our porch hanging fiasco, you can read all about that HERE. Definitely a story we will probably tell our children’s children’s children. It was CA-razy! So, our porch swing… we love it SO much that it was actually one of only seven furniture items we kept from our home since we sold it fully furnished. Read more about that porch HERE. SO we decided our new covered back porch was the perfect spot to re-hang this cozy swing! We already had a custom cover for the mattress that I still loved so it was just a matter of finding all of the accessories. From outdoor pillows to rugs and even outdoor throws, World Market has such a huge selection of everything you could ever want or need for an outdoor space. So I got online and made one big purchase that covered it all! I love how they have things for those craving neutrals as well as a huge selection for the pattern and color lovers like me.
So before I share the full reveal, I have to share a funny story. An almost terrible and awful and not so funny story. So my sweet mom always watches my IG stories. I finally got her on Instagram several months ago and she now follows three people… me, my sister and Joanna Gaines. I am feeling rather special 😉 One day I posted quite a few videos of Mark hanging the swing and she calls me almost immediately to tell me that the position of the swing against the railing of our somewhat high back porch could be dangerous if the girls were to stand on the bed or sit far against the back and fall backwards. My heart sank when I realized she was totally right and I had not even realized that! So we literally went that evening to our local antique store right down the road in an old Cotton Mill to purchase an antique shutter I had seen and loved on a previous visit. With a couple of coats of spray paint and a fabulously talented shutter hanging husband, we were in business! With a safe porch and and even a cute new backdrop to hang little flower vases on! Flower vases that I found at my sister’s cute new store SaltBox Lane in downtown Monroe! So here’s the full reveal of our new gorgeously colorful back porch with World Market!
P.S. Every detail on this space is at the very bottom of this reveal.
