You Guys!!! It is almost November! Where on Earth did 2018 go?!? I am seriously freaking out. My kid is almost in middle school. Basically. And my baby will be graduating kindergarten before I know it! I know. I know. I am getting ahead of myself but I seriously feel like that is how fast this year has gone by. Mark mentioned something that happened last December and literally in my head I could’ve sworn it was this April or May. Something happened this month when I turned 37 where I feel like I am analyzing time a little too much. Like basically a mid-life crisis. Except mine will just consist of too much re-decorating, smothering my children with obsessive attention since they’re basically grown and refusing to even trim my hair since I keep hearing that super long hair is apparently faux-pas the older you get. Ugh. Just ugh. Hehe okay I am done now. Just needed a little vent sesh.
About a year and a half ago I revealed the renovated but still empty basement in our 1905 home. You can see the full tour and get all of the construction details RIGHT HERE. I am completely OBSESSED with everything about this space from the beautiful natural light to the newly whitewashed brick walls and whitewashed hardwood flooring. However, getting this space beyond just another place to throw flip house packages and extra fabric from my former bedding company has taken some time. Several months ago I finally tackled my home office in the fireplace area of this space and I LOVE IT (Tour IT HERE) but the rest remained one big hot mess.
When it came time to plan the rest of our daylight basement, we decided we wanted an entertaining space that was an extension of our outdoor living areas. Our basement door is super close to our outdoor grill area and fire-pit so we wanted a chic and cozy spot to step inside for drinks, to eat, to just sit and relax or even play a card game or two. Okay let’s be honest… I mean really just a spot to ship the guys off to when we have get togethers. Hehe.
For this new entertaining space and dining area, I teamed up with Walmart to complete the space stylishly and on budget. Creating an IG worthy space doesn’t HAVE to cost an arm and a leg. You can sit down in your living room while watching a little Ozark and create the look you want at Walmart.com! From sofas to coffee tables, accent chairs and side tables, Walmart has everything you need to get guest ready! Because let’s get real… there are only EIGHT more Fridays until Christmas so basically Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Basically. Good thing you can super easily shop by style while being able to add to your cart right then and there! Plus, they offer free shipping on orders over $35 – no membership required!
Now let’s chat about the design… First, I started the design with this beautiful settee I’ve had for quite a few years now. I loved the soft, warm toned leather against the hard, cold brick. It added such a touch of elegant masculinity to the space. Yes, I just used elegant and masculine in the same description ;-). I loved the mixed textures so much that I just decided to keep it going! I found these amazing sculpted twill chairs for the end of the table. I love that the legs match the settee but the fabric contrasts so beautifully. From there the space needed a bright pop of white and a fun touch of a more modern style so I chose these mid-century modern chairs in white for the other side of the table. I love the rounded backs against the square table and settee. Next up, this rug!!! I loved the white to accent the chairs and then the black to add depth, contrast and sophistication to the space. Finally, the accessories! I always love a good pop of gold so I chose this metallic vase and then since texture was the “theme”, I chose these super fun fringe pillows. Oh and you guys are going to freak when you see the prices! These pillows are UNDER $20!!! One last thing… get ready to see quite possibly the ONLY completely neutral space I have ever designed. Considering the proximity of this area to my colorful office and my plans for the kitchenette/bar area we are working on next, I decided to go completely neutral!!! Say what?!?
