It might be Monday (blaaaaahhhhh) but it just so happens to be a pretty amazing one around here! First off, it’s our first “official” day of Summer at home! Addison and Winter have been out of school for over a month now but it’s our first full day home from Oregon and enjoying the laziness of Summer. Next, I am SOOO excited and honored to be taking over the @liketoknow.it.home feed today on Instagram! I also just might even be sharing some images over there that I haven’t even shared here! One from this post was posted on the main @liketoknow.it feed this morning and I got soooo many sweet responses that I decided to just go ahead and blog this room today! PLUS, I am SOOO close to 100k followers on Instagram! Hoping I just might hit that number soon! You can FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM HERE. And lastly, literally as I sit here and write this post, our new blush sectional from Jonathan Louis Furniture is being “installed” in our living room. SOOOO dang excited about this color! It is GORGEOUS!
A year and a half ago we first laid eyes on our ultimate historic dream, Our Historic Wonderland. With Addison and Winter growing by the millisecond, we were finally comfortable with them being on a different floor of our home than our master bedroom and I was FINALLY “ready-ish” to create bedrooms more suitable for little young ladies. Saying goodbye to the last of our Addison’s Wonderland bedding was a sad sad day but I was determined to still create unique, colorful and pattern filled spaces that define my style.
If you’ve been on our OHW restoration journey from day one, you may remember the staircase debacle. Our home originally had TWO staircases and we went round and round about which to remove. We finally decided on removing the back staircase which led up to what was originally a master bedroom “exercise room”. Since we had already planned on creating the master suite downstairs rather than upstairs, I began envisioning this space into a bedroom for Addison. We expanded the room by extending the walls into the attic space and “carving out” a bathroom and closet out of attic space as well. So let’s take a peek at her room BEFORE…
Once the staircase was gone and the walls were re-configured into a much larger and more functional bedroom, it came time to do what I love most… selecting finishes. I can honestly say that our home just would not be the same without all of the AMAZING whitewashed hardwood flooring options I found from Shaw Floors. I had this vision of a light and bright home but came up almost zero options in the REAL whitewashed pre-finished hardwood flooring category before discovering Shaw Floors. Everything was laminate or vinyl and I really wanted to stick with natural selections for our 1905 home. Once I partnered with Shaw and saw their HUGE selection, I went from having zero options to honestly having too many!
For both of the girl’s bedrooms and our master bedroom, I chose Shaw Floors’ Muir’s Park in Bridal Veil. It was a gorgeous whitewashed finish but still had beautiful warm undertones that coordinated with our existing doors and all of the gold fixtures I had chosen for our home.
So here’s a look back at her room post-construction…
Once our restoration was complete, it was time for the fun stuff! Color and pattern and texture… I started Addison’s room design with this bed that I feel head over heels for as well as this wallpaper that I had been DYING to use in a space! It was perfect for her 12′ ceilings and gave her room that whimsical touch that I try and apply to every design project I complete. I think every space needs an element of surprise and this bed and wallpaper definitely fit the bill! After those were in, the design fell into place from the rug to the bedding to the custom roman shades (which I will be chatting LOTS more about soon!) and even a HomeGoods haul! Now let’s take a peek at Addison’s bright coral young girl’s bedroom reveal!
