Live Q & A Virtual Design Chat!
November it is! Although I am sad to see one of the most beautiful months of the year fly on by, I am SO excited about November! Thanksgiving, cooler weather, Christmas decorating… all of that sounds fabulous and all but one of the things I am MOST excited about is what November means for Addison’s Wonderland. First and foremost, it marks the beginning of my full-time commitment to AW! What?!? That’s so beyond crazy to me. What I thought would forever be a fun little creative outlet, design hobby, and side kick has over the last two months evolved into something that needs my all. And boy am I SO excited to finally be able to give Addison’s Wonderland my absolute all! Secondly, I am finished with my fabric sale, I’ve tied up some lingering projects and am finally ready for lift off. Next, November begins my new blogging gig with Better Homes and Gardens. That one is still beyond me and I keep waiting for the e-mail that’s like, wait… we totally got you mixed up with someone else. Okay, kidding kidding but I am honored to be a part of the BHG team. Check out my BHG Bio HERE. And lastly, November means the launch of a new blog platform. Although you may not notice any drastic changes, this week I will be re-launching my blog for what will be a more user friendly, me friendly (I am not super techy), mobile friendly and overall easier to navigate site. Whew! I think that about covers it!
What’s next for Addison’s Wonderland? Well, for starters I will be finally giving you guys a full, detailed home tour inside and out starting early this week with Winter’s big girl room! I am also expanding into more design advice, some DIY projects, more fashion posts and a little bit more inside my personal life (eeek!).
So I wanted to really kick start the month with another LIVE Q & A Session! My last one, CLICK HERE TO VIEW went so well and I have gotten so many requests for another that I decided to start November with Live Chat #2!
This MONDAY, as in tomorrow, November 2nd at 8pm EST, I will be logging onto the back-end of my blog to type as fast as my fingers will go to answer ALL of your burning questions! Need help choosing a paint color? Can’t find a source on my blog? Wondering how tall to purchase drapery? Need advice on starting your own blog? Yep, ask me anything!

Hi!
I’m local and would like to know who you use, or recommend, for reupholstering and making drapes or pillow covers?
KD COBB says
Also who do you recommend for putting up wallpaper? I know if it’s not done correctly it can be a disaster. Do you know if they are also willing to cover a ceiling? I had a recommendation from a friend but after I spoke with her she said she doesn’t do ceilings
Brittany Hayes says
Good evening! I actually do not 🙁 The guy I use is in Athens and he hurt his shoulder so hasn’t been doing much lately. I need to find someone for a client soon though! I will comment back if I find someone 🙂 XOXO

Hello! I cannot wait for the Q&A tonight! Here is a quick description of the rooms I need help with; I have open floor plan and I just recently painted my dining room and kitchen Gray (Argos by SW). I painted a long wall in my living room that goes thru my hallway, and can be seen in my dining room and kitchen, Navy (Naval by SW). My furniture is brown and so dull but at the moment I don’t plan on getting new furniture so I am trying to light up my space and make it more modern with fun colors and accents. I recently just bought a Ghost Chair and I am so excited to use that somewhere!!!! ANYWAYS- I guess my question would be since my living room and dining room will be Gray and Navy, I need ideas for accent colors. (My dining chairs are avocado green from Pier one) AND I would like to wallpaper a small accent wall I have dividing my dining room and living room. What color wall paper or what pattern should I be looking at?
Brittany Hayes says
Good evening! Love those colors! I’d suggest a yellow/mustard color for the navy. Those are complimentary colors and will really pop! As far as pattern you should be pretty open since you haven’t mentioned any patterns in the room otherwise. A black/white would be pretty or maybe a gray/white if you want something somewhat neutral. If not, you could do a wide range of colors. Since argos and naval are pretty cool colors, I’d stay in the cool color range for the most part except for a pop or two of a warmer color. Hope that helps! XOXO

Hi Brittany…so glad you’re doing this. What color/type rug do you suggest for a dining room that has a mahogany dining set, teal wall/white wainscoting/wood flooring? Please, thanks.
Brittany Hayes says
Good evening! It depends on if you want it to be a focal point or not. Since mahogany is a warmer tone and teal is a cooler tone, I’d suggest something light in color and a touch of warmth in color to coordinate with the table. Maybe a slightly warm gray and white. Something along those lines. Hope that helps!
Delia says
Thanks a lot for your response. I searched for the post to comment :-). I have an open floor plan, and everywhere else is painted grey, so my husband suggested I use a bright color.
Crystal says
How do you begin a room? Do you start with an inspirational piece or decide color first. I love you bold colors and patterns but am not sure where to start.
Brittany Hayes says
Good evening! Always start with something you love! My living room started with the teal chairs and I knew I wanted that to be a focal point. From there I stuck with a more neutral rug and bookcase wallpaper. In my dining room I started with the dark gray molding. I knew I wanted something dark and sophisticated right when you entered my home. From there I fell in love with the bird wallpaper and I found the fun bench. Hope that helps! XOXO
Brittany Hayes says
Oh and one more thing… keep a common theme in your main living areas. My “theme” is teal. If something doesn’t coordinate or compliment that color, it doesn’t work in our home. Not everything has to “match” but coordinate. I don’t like matchy matchy at ALL! For example, red and teal just do NOT go together so you won’t see any red in our living areas except around the Holidays. That way you can really mix things up without everything clashing. XOXO
Crystal says
Thank you! That really helps! I really want to add more color and pattern in my life but I’m scared I may break some type of decorating rules! You make everything look so beautiful!

Awe good! Thank you so so much!! XOXO

Hi! I have 2 dark grey couches in my tv room and an espresso tv stand.. What color or style coffee table and side tables do you recommend? Without being too matchy matchy neither completely mismatched.. Thanks!!
Brittany Hayes says
Good evening! I’m really loving gold and gray right now. There are lots of fun gold options right now. I also love the idea of doing a clear “ghost” table with fun little pouf ottomans under it and right next to it. Another option would be a rustic light wood tone or light gray table. I like to mix more rough textures with soft furnishings like the sofa. Thanks! XOXO
Farrah says
Thank you soo much! That really helps! How about side tables should they match the coffee table

Hello! I am progressively redoing a spare bathroom that is near the bonus room aka:”Man Cave” in our home. I’ve painted it Rocky Bluffs (Valspar) and installed a white textured tile. We currently have some brass accents (shower door, faucets) that will eventually go, but not at the moment. The cabinetry and vanity in this space are an oak color, with white corian for the vanity top. Looking for suggestions on colors, patterns, and suggestions on statement pieces (i.e., large vase for vanity) to use in this space! Also, any suggestion on paint colors for the vanity and trim to accompany the wall color? Thanks for your help!
Brittany Hayes says
Sounds beautiful! Okay I looked up the wall color on Pinterest. It’s a pretty warm color so something cooler would really pop. That isn’t something you want to add a lot of or really overdo but accenting in navy, teal or even a kelly green would be beautiful! I like BM Simply White if you want something really white or BM White Dove for a white with a touch of cream. Our kitchen cabinets are white dove. A navy cabinet would be gorgeous if you want something fun! XOXO

Hello! My husband is currently renovating a camper for us and I am wanting to give it a nice decorative touch without completely redoing all of the oak cabinets that are in great shape. Any suggestions on some fun colors or decorating ideas that would compliment the oak and beige walls? Thank you!! 🙂
Brittany Hayes says
Good evening! So fun! I’d do some fun temporary wallpapers! I love the vintage florals they have out right now. You could even do it on the inner sections of the cabinet doors if you are super brave! I’d stick with warmer tones with touches of blues and greens. You can also do lots with fabric as far as drapery or bedding in a camper. I’d really layer the prints if you want to create more of a vintage or retro look. Mixing florals with stripes and geomtric patterns (trellis or plaids) would be amazing! XOXO

Thank you for the suggestions! I am also in the process of finishing the walls in my little girls bedroom. She has beautiful antique gray furniture that I painted and the Claire quilt from pb kids http://www.potterybarnkids.com/m/products/claire-quilted-bedding-aegean/ I’m at loss for where to go with the walls and curtains but feel like they need something. He walls are painted a softer blue than what is in the quilt. I would love to hear any of your suggestions!

Hello, love your blog and Instagram account! Do you have a formula or suggestions for styling a round side table in a family room that is kid friendly? I currently just have a stack of magazines but would love to jazz it up a bit! Thank you!
Brittany Hayes says
Thank you so so much! Whew kid friendly, that’s a hard one! It depends on how large it is too. Baskets are always great! If it’s larger you can have throw blankets peeking out of them. Even decorative moss type balls are great in wire baskets. My girls take ours out and play with them 🙂

Hello! I have a oak kitchen cabinets that I would love to change! The flooring is grey tile and the current counter tops (which will stay for a while) are dark grey. Could you suggest a cabinet color paint? My walls are SW hearts of palm and I’m willing to change that as well 🙂 Thanks so much!
Andrea says
Thank you for your help! Navy and Kelly Green in my bathroom sound perfect! If you have time, I’d also love to know your thoughts on painting the back of a built in oak bookshelf. I love the oak color of my built ins. Wall color is Hearts of Palm (Sherwin Williams). My built ins currently house antique mismatch cream China place settings. I’d love to paint or wallpaper the back of the built ins. Suggestions on specific colors or papers that would compliment?

Brittany,
I love watching your Instagram account and blog. Your house is adorable! I am working on decorating our living room. We just recently got married so I’m stumped. We have a small wall that is dedicated to “C” for our last name, but I am struggling with a large wall behind our couch. I was thinking maybe engagement/wedding pictures, but I don’t know how many is too many and also how big is too big. What are your thoughts?
Also, we have repainted a lot of the rooms in the house since I have moved in to brighten them up, but the kitchen, living room and hallway are all still beige because that seemed to be too daunting of a task to repaint. We don’t really have a color scheme yet, how do you suggest brightening up a beige living room? Our couch is brown leather and our tree stand is black. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to hear from you!
Chelsea says
TV stand, not Tree stand (In Christmas mode I guess) Sorry for that confusion..

Hi Brittany! I will be reno-ing the master bathroom in my new home. What are some current trends? I’m in NJ (right outside of NYC) or I would check out APF 🙂 if you know anyone up here or any chains that would be helpful too! Thanks!

What is the color of your trim in your house? I can’t seem to find it and for some reason, I have a hard time believing it’s just plain ole white lol.
Nikkea Beavers says
What’s your best advice for making bold walls flow through a shotgun style sort of house? We have a huge hall way in the middle, walking 1st into the living room and kitchen in the back with rooms on the sides of the house. It’s weird, but I get so stuck on making it feel calm without seeing so much at once. If that makes sense :/
Nikkea Beavers says
Also, lol. Best colors to use with wood colored cabinets? I want to paint them but my hubbie insists he loves the folky, vintage feel. We’re trying for a compromise.

Hi Brittany,
My question is, I’m struggling to put up wall decor on a very large living room wall…what would your suggestions be? I currently have a cream colored couch with dark wood/glass tables (pottery barn). I was thinking of doing a big sunburst mirror in the middle ( actually the same one u have over your fireplace (coincidental! Lol) and then was thinking about doing shelves in each side like 2 on one side and 2 on the other for balance…and then putting decor on those shelves…do u think it would be too much? Or should I just stick with the sunburst mirror more to the left of couch and then just do 2 shelves to the right if it? I need help! Lol
Sheila says
I forgot to add, what colors should I also incorporate? I feel like everything I have is just more distressed wood color! Too many neutrals and not enough pops of color! Teals? Yellows? Trying not to make it too feminine since my hubby and I spend the most time in the living room

Hi Brittany,
My question for you is regarding our living room(LR)furniture placement. I’m in love with your TV room and would like to do something similar. The challenge I’m having is would a sectional work in our LR or would a sofa be better? Our LR is long and narrow (11.11 x 21.11) our TV is currently centered on the 11.11 wall but can be moved. This is our main TV room and we have 3 small kiddos. The walls are painted edgecomb gray, we have creamy white trim and dark brown hardwood. Thank you for the help
