Bringing 1906 to 2016- The Cheeky Update!
I originally planned on making today’s post a bit more exciting. With flashing lights and dancers and cotton candy… hehe not THAT exciting. Basically more than just pictures of sheetrock. BUT I had a computer glitch. You see, I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and my lack of Mac knowledge paired with my overall lack of anything technical knowledge is a really really bad combination. When we purchased my Mac, we got it without a ton of memory because Mark said he could always add more. And then I assumed that he could “click, click, click” and “boom, bam, boom” my laptop would have more memory. Well apparently you gotta buy that crap, it comes in the mail and then you have to install it. Haven’t we moved beyond actually tangible objects people?!? Isn’t everything done online now?!? What the heck! So I tried to upload images and blog this morning but my computer was FULL. So I waited patiently for Mark to get home and work his magic only to find out that we have to wait on the mailman. Boooooo! So he deleted some stuff, gave me enough memory to load some images but now it is 11:02pm and I no longer feel like making this post exciting. So there you have it. The cold hard truth.
So let’s start at the beginning for those of you who are new to my blog…
- Why are we moving? So you see, we had JUST completed renovating this home that we love and were just minding our own business when one day last November we heard about this house. A home built in 1908 that was freaking amazing. Well that’s what everyone told us. They said that it was amazing and had so much potential and that we needed to buy it. And then I said “yea sure whatever don’t even tell me about it” and then Mark went and looked at it. Without my permission. What the heck?!? So then he came home and said that it was so amazing and so our dream home and so our dream project that he would give up our recently renovated home that we love and the 10 acres that he always wanted just to tackle this mega project. So we bought it.
- What all have we done? So basically we purchased land, 2 x 4’s and siding. We had to completely re-run and re-stub the electrical, plumbing, HVAC and everything in between. We re-configured every single room, moved them all around and made the project ten times bigger than it should’ve been. We then re-framed and just completed sheetrock last week!
- Tell me about the house… Mark and I thought we were buying a 1908 cottage. Well then Mark tells me that it was built in 1906 and that I made up the 1908 part. Strange. And then the cottage part? Well, it’s actually almost 6,000 square feet. Oops, I thought we were down sizing. It sits on one acre and is on the absolute most beautiful historic road. Although I may be biased.
- When will you be finished? According to Mark, next week 😉 According to me, in six months. So we shall meet somewhere in the middle and say we are shooting for 3-4 months.
- What the he$& is OHW? It’s Our Historic Wonderland! I mean, everyone names their homes right?!?

I came to your blog from the summer or spring blog about your other house from Sunny Side Up blog. Wow, this place is not a restoration but a renovation. I love restoration and renovation projects. Since I can’t do them I live through people who do these and watch the amazing work being done on homes. I am so looking forward to seeing your vision develop in this home. I looked over your blog and you do have a different twist and taste on things, away from traditional, transitional, modern, eclectic. I can’t wait and it will be so much fun to see what you do with this house. Watching everyday now. I look forward to each and every post.
Mary.
