Showing the Exterior Some Love…
Dark Blue Gray Exterior House Siding
It’s been a couple of months now since painting commenced but in our house it’s still dubbed “the green house”. The cute little name must’ve stuck but the color absolutely did not! Although the interior was far from complete at the time, Mark and I could not handle the exterior any longer so in August, we painted it blue. Kind of blue and kind of grey. To see the full “before” tour read, “Our Historic Home Tour“. A color that took me no less than 15 sample quarts to create. To read more about the final paint choice, read “We. Painted. The. House.” So let’s take ONE more look at the “before” and I will give you some sneak peeks at it today! Well, last night. At Twilight to be exact š
I know some of you loved the green but even if we loved it, which we most definitely did not, it was so faded and peeling and BLAH that it needed a freshĀ coat regardless. I mean I wasn’t THAT mad about itĀ ;-). There are some projects that we slay. And there are others that seem to drag and drag and drag. Well restoring the exterior has been the project that never ever ends. Then add on porch railing, back porch additions, a covered grill area and revamping the back porch and yea well, it literally may never end. So that my friends is why I haven’t done a full reveal quite yet. But I will share some extremely huge sneak peeks at where everything is today. AND I will share the exterior color since everyone keeps asking. Without further ado, take a little tour around OHW at dusk!

Trim- Dove Wing by Sherwin Williams
Door Stain- Clear Polyurethane
P.S. The exterior doors and garage doors were installed by the previous owner so I am not sure where they are from. I think they may have even been custom made. Sorry!

Just absolutely love it all! That blue is fab!!! I know you won’t get to do it this year but how great will that porch look next year with all the pumpkins and Halloween decoration????
Gosh I was so thinking the same thing!!! Wish I could get it together enough to do that! Definitely next year and hope you will still be following along in time for that! XOXO
Have you seen pics of what the house looked like inside before it was gutted? If I remember correctly- when you bought it it was already gutted. Also that color “slays!”
We haven’t actually! I SOOO wish we could find some! We purchased it completely gutted. Basically a shell of a home. Thanks for following along! XOXO
It’s just SO beautiful! I find myself checking compulsively for updates! LOL
Do you have anything fun planned with the landscape or will that come later after you’ve moved in? Anything special for the backyard?
It is gorgeous!! At the risk of sounding like a complete creep, I may or may not have drove by last weekend when I was in town…and loved it!! Also, isn’t soot and witching hour an Ben Moore color, not SW?
I had this same question. We are trying to figure out a paint color for our house- and would love to copy this its gorgeous. However, Sherwin Williams doesn’t carry these colors, Benjamin Moore does. Also neither of those colors look like they have blue tints to them.
Sorry for the confusion! They are Benjamin Moore colors, I just accidentally wrote Sherwin Williams. We did have them mixed at our local Sherwin Williams though because they do color match. The blue undertone is ever so slight but on an exterior and on such a large scale, it does read very blue. Thanks so much!
The exterior paint color you created is just gorgeous! It’s so perfect the style of your house and the trim colors on the windows really pop! Will you be painting the railing and deck at all? It’s all going to look amazing when you’re all done.
I am looking for inspirations on color and love this. Am I understanding you mixed two blues for the exterior?
Yes, that’s correct! Made my own custom color š XOXO
Can you tell me the color and make of the stone you used on the back piers and also do you have any idea the color of the brick and if its acme?
Beautiful! What color grey did you use for the foundation brick?
I am painting my house right now and I stumbled upon this because we are using soot by BM to paint part of our siding. We have some block to paint on the bottom of the house and I would love to know what gray you used on the foundation. I don’t know how likely you are to look at this since the post isn’t new so I am going to cross post it on your Instagram. Thanks in advance!
Hi, I know this is a long shot but what colour is the grey you painted the foundation bricks?
Hello! How are you? I was wondering if you can confirm the siding color… You asked the paint store to mix a can with 1/2 BM Soot and 1/2 BM Witching Hour? Thanks for clarifying!
Thank you! I have been looking for a color for my home and I saw this beautiful home that you have done and the color you chose. I ran right to the Ace hardware purchased two of the sample of soot and witching hour mixed them together painted a small corner of the house. I love love love it. Everyone that has by the house since itās been painted loves the color. I tell them that you created this color. Thank you again for your beautiful style. Love what you have done to your house. Stunning!!
