Our Dark & Moody Master Bedroom
Hello friends!!! Happy Tuesday! Well, it’s really Monday for me. Monday afternoon and I am sitting on the floor at ballet while both Addie and Winnie take dance. Mondays are a stressful rush from carpool to snack to dance but this week I am not complaining because it was just nice to get out of the freaking house!!! ACL recovery has been rough. I mean, it was Mark’s ACL, but it has still been rough. LOL. Much more difficult a recovery than we expected and taking care of two kids, a dog and a grown man have proven to be more than I bargained for. Mark is better though and life is getting one ounce back to normal. With the exception of the fact that he cannot drive. For a while. Just call me Mommy & Wifey Uber. Anyone want to carpool my husband to work??? 😉
So I have successfully been bouncing way the heck around from post-construction room reveals to more recent furnishing updates. It’s basically a peek inside of my brain. I am all over the place. Today I felt compelled to share our master bedroom. Because I love it. A lot. In our first two pre-blog homes, I neglected the master bedroom. Nowadays it’s kind of become my first focus. I love having a beautiful space to relax in. A space that feels more like a home than a project. Because we are really good at having a home full of projects.
So the master bedroom… here’s how it has played out in my head… I knew I wanted it dark and romantic and moody. I wanted the insanely amazing 111 year old brick fireplace to pop and the fabulous natural sunlight to stream in and shimmer on the walls. So I chose Inkwell by Sherwin Williams. It is black, possibly even more black than it looks here. It does have the very slightest blue undertone but doesn’t read blue in real life. More black. And then to avoid a bedroom that looked more like a dungeon than a room, I chose the MOST BEAUTIFUL whitewashed hardwood flooring from Shaw Floors. It’s called Muir’s Park in Bridal Veil and I am in LOOOOOOVE. So much so that it can also be found in Addison and Winter’s bedrooms. The flooring actually hasn’t released quite yet but is set to come out early this year! I chose a warm wood tone to coordinate with the warmth of the brick on the fireplace. And then for one last POP against the black walls, I chose this white wood bead chandelier to add that vintage glam touch. Oh and let’s not forget about the tile on the fireplace hearth. My work always needs a touch of the unexpected, a little surprise if you will, so this was my fun little addition.
Now let’s chat furnishings… I chose a really huge four poster bed because a) this room is massive and needed something that wouldn’t get lost visually and b) because the only place for the bed was against the windows and I didn’t want the windows to be lost behind a tall headboard. I chose this light wood finish to pop against the walls and add a rough wood texture to the space to work against the softer furnishings I will be adding. Varying textures is KEY in creating a unique and visually appealing space. Next, I found these amazing little nightstands at HomeGoods that coordinate perfectly with the bed! They are Tommy Hilfiger and I cannot find them ANYWHERE online! I did find THESE which I love too by Tommy Hilfiger. Then came bedding. I knew I wanted something really bold and colorful for the drapery and the rug so I chose a fluffy white duvet cover. It is GORGEOUS in person! And finally I found this bold rug with my signature pop of color that pairs perfectly with my future vision for the rest of this space. And yes, it is pink. SUPER DARK pink. But sshhhh… I told Mark it was light red. Hehehe. So of course my vision is MEGA far from complete but I wanted to give you an update so HERE YOU GO!

That bed is amazing! I’m loving where this room is going. I’m on a hunt for a bench for our MBR. The one you chose is so much fun! Love the acrylic legs!
Thanks dear!!! You are the sweetest reader EVER. ALWAYS. XOXO
Great call on that bed so it doesn’t block the amazing lights streaming from the windows. Are the windows facing the front street and what are your plans for privacy and window coverings? The colors are just beautiful – black walls, light ceiling and flooring. The pop of color from the rug, and the fur on the bench are the perfect match for the rest of things in the bedroom, so far. Yes, the fireplace is one of my favorite too.
Thank you SO much! Yes, we absolutely have window coverings and I will share those very soon!! You are such a sweetheart! XOXO
Our bed would fit perfectly in front of similar windows. I’m scared that would look weird from the road though. It’s so hard to decide!
It would probably look fine! Especially if you have any window coverings. I’ve seen lots like that! XOXO
This is yummy! May I ask whee the rug is from? Beautiful!
Of course! It’s from RugsUSA and the exact one is linked in one of the first several paragraphs. Thanks! XOXO
I love the chandelier, the furry throw on the bench, the dark blue wall color and how the rug plays against it. Truly stunning!
Awe thank you so much! You are wonderful! XOXO
Love this! Just happen to be looking for master bedroom ideas and this came! Just curious, I’m not a designer at all, why did you have to put the bed in front of the windows instead of the opposite wall? I love the colors, would love to see it in person since it looks navy on here, but I like it! Nice to see how you kept it so bright even with dark walls.
Awe awesome timing then! I almost ALWAYS position the layout of a room to be viewed best upon entering the space. The right wall would’ve been an option except that the doorway would’ve prevented the use of a bedside table and we both use ours like crazy! Thanks so much! XOXO
Do you think you could paint walls black with high ceilings, or does it only work because the white from the ceiling is so low?
What is the finish of this paint color? Is it flat? I am just starting my first home adventure and I am amazed at your work. So beautiful!!! You are very talented.
Hi! Yes, it’s flat. I almost ALWAYS use flat on walls! Thanks so so much! XOXO
Hi,
I love the dark walls, Could you tell me what color did you use to the dark walls?
Thank you
