The Final Reveal of our Full Floral Wallpapered, Checkered Backsplash Cottage Kitchen!

She’s all DONE. Finally complete! Every square foot of our cute little cottage renovation is finally complete and this home is actually on the market! You can view the LISTING RIGHT HERE. So happy to have this home checked off of our list. Always bittersweet I guess because we LOVE renovating homes and having creative projects in the works but it also feels so good to check another thing off the list! Especially since this was one of two homes we purchased side by side back in 2021 and now they’re both complete!

Today I am sharing the final reveal of the oh so fun and oh so colorful and “patternful” kitchen! This room was one of my very favorite projects I’ve ever designed and ever done. One thing I absolutely love about doing flip homes is that there isn’t a “client” so it’s just me and all of my crazy design ideas. One thing I am asked all the time is why we go so far into designing and even furnishing a “flip home”. Yep, we wallpaper, we furnish and we even get down to the detailed accessorizing in our flip homes and the reason we do? For THE CONTENT! My business is multi-layered and unlike most flip companies who want to flip homes quick and simple for the profit on the actual sale of the home, we actually make more on the content side than we do on the actual sale! Meaning that between partnering with companies and sharing product links, we do flip homes MORE for the design and styling side than we do for the actual renovation of the home. Although of course bringing old homes back to life… especially in our own community… most definitely has a piece of our hearts. John, Ab and myself all have such a love and appreciation for older homes and we all live in one too! Not all together of course. HA!

For this kitchen renovation, we made some absolutely HUGE changes! First, the room that is now the kitchen actually wasn’t even originally the kitchen at all. It was very common a century ago to have the kitchen in the very back of the home due to the heat. Kitchens were less prominent features of the home so these rooms tended to be smaller than we see today. So just like we did with our last flip home and our personal home, we swapped the dining space and the kitchen!

As far as the design, for some crazy reason I had been dreaming of doing a FULLY wallpapered floral kitchen. A “jewel box” style wrap from walls to ceiling! For this, I chose this absolutely BEAUTIFUL FLORAL PAPER LINKED HERE.

Next up, before we got started on installing the wallpaper was choosing a cabinet PAINT COLOR! I knew I wanted something that blended, but wasn’t too matchy matchy, with the wallpaper. We tested out several samples and I chose Pigeon by Farrow and Ball @ 75% strength…

Next, Ab and I went to work (she was seven months preggo BTW!) wallpapering this space. Every wall and the ceiling! Not an easy task to say the very least but I absolutely LOVE how it turned out. Such a STATEMENT!

From there, I decided to take a huge chance and layer it up even more with a checkered tile pattern in 4″ Zellige Tile from Villa Lagoon Tile… LINKED HERE! I chose the colors Meringue and Oyster Shell…

John and I (ish… mostly John) installed the tile in a checkerboard and THANKFULLY (whew! LOL) it turned out absolutely ADORABLE! I was a hecka nervous about it LOL!

Next, we added floating shelves… LINKED HERE and then installed the most beautiful, sleek gas range I had ordered from Empava… LINKED HERE.

And then FINALLY, the CHANDY… LINKED HERE! Since there can never be too many floral patterns, hehe, we layered it on even more with this beautiful flower petal chandelier.

My Pants

We then added lots of fun accessories… and even stole Ab’s barstools from her house because I forgot to order some… HA! Don’t worry, it was temporary for pictures and videos and I will be ordering better ones for the space once we get home from our Summer travels. Here’s a peek at this space BEFORE and NOW!
