Let’s just say that today’s post is my own personal dream-come-true room reveal. Like I have been WAY too excited to reveal this room with y’all!! Or “you’s guys” if you are a West Coaster. We have sure heard that one a lot over the last month! I remember the first time Addie heard it here in Oregon. We were going through a drive-thru and the lady said “here’s you’s guy’s straws”. Addie’s eyes bulged out and she said “WHAT did she just say?!?” They both still giggle every time they hear it š Addie said it’s waaaay too hard to say. She wants to teach everyone to just say “y’all”. Hehe. Yep, we are Southern girls!
One thing I have ALWAYS wanted in a home was a mud room. Quite possibly maybe even more than a kitchen š For someone who cannot even handle anyone wearing shoes around the house, a mud room is OCD central. In our last home, I literally “carved” a tiny one out of a coat closet (you can see and read about that RIGHT HERE) just to have a set spot for shoes. So this go around I was DETERMINED to make it work! And since our 112 year old home did not exactly have one, I reconfigured it all to make one magically appear! Hehe okay no but once I switched around our floorplan, I made what was once a breakfast room into our new mud room. It’s the perfect spot either coming in from the back porch, which is actually where we park) or up through the basement. So as usual, let’s take a peek at this space BEFORE…
Yep, a big ole pile of studs… a blank slate… what I love MOST!!! When we restored our home, there was SOOOO much to be done that we decided very early on to basically just create another blank slate. To get all of the necessities complete so that we could simply move in. We focused on the layout, the moldings and doors, the cabinetry and countertops… all of the things that are much more difficult to tackle post move-in than decorative paint and wallpaper. I knew I wanted gorgeous custom cabinetry and I knew I wanted a vintage vibe for the entire home. SO I teamed up with Shaw Floors to find ALL of my dream flooring for OHW! From three different types of whitewashed hardwood flooring to vintage inspired tile, they literally had every single thing on my wish list. For the mud room, I chose their Elegance Penny Round Mosaic in White. It screams vintage and I still also have exciting plans to make this flooring even MORE amazing very soon! Here’s a little hint… see that ungrouted rectangle in the center of the floor? Yep, it’s going right there! Hoping to finally tackle it this Summer once we return from Oregon!
So now let’s take a peek at our mud room post-construction on the day we moved in…
Are those gorgeous penny tile floors not sooo perfect?!? Obsessed with them! They are way more beautiful in person too! The dark grout (Grout Color: GRAY) is PERFECT for a mud room too! So moving right along, if you have followed me for two years or two days you may already well know that I have a love affair with wallpaper. That is quite possibly one of the top three things I have always loved about older homes. Not 1980’s wallpapered homes but think like early 1900’s homes. My whole goal in restoring OHW was to create a “fresh vintage” wonderland. So without further ado, here’s MY TAKE on a Fresh Vintage Wonderland…

Couch from anthropologie?
What brand are your front and back door knobs? And where can I find them? We need something with a large plate and the door knob centered in the middle like yours. Thanks.
That wallpaper! Those tiles! Question- is the center rectangle a different color from the rest of the penny tile? Or does it just photograph that way?
Oh my word!!! SO FREAKING GOOD! Also, we say “you guys” in the midwest. Totally loving Addie’s reaction! Lol
This is stunning! Like, my jaw literally dropped. That wallpaper with that tile…OMG.!!! So good!!!!
Love the wallpaper and the whole vibe of the mudrooom! I so wish we have a mudroom too! Question on the chandelier: Does it give out enough light? I think I finally convinced my hubs on that chandler for our foyer! Yay!
This is amazing!! I thought I loved the girls’ playroom the best upstairs, but this might just take the cake. I absolutely love the way you put patterns and colors together. Fantastic.
It’s so bright and blue! Are you keeping the shelving natural wood or will those be painted as well?
Absolutely beautiful! The penny tile definitely gives that vintage vibe. Love how you painted the molding to the door color to tie it all together. And if course, the show stealer is the gorgeous wallpaper.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU! Too sweet! XOXO
As always, I love this! The green bench is so perfect and makes it all come together. Thanks for letting us look into your little wonderland:-)
You are THE SWEETEST! Thank you dear! XOXO
Brittany,
I just discovered your blog and I am beyond thrilled to browse through your beautiful home. It is honestly my favorite! Thank you for your willingness to share pictures of your home but also your willingness to share your sources. I am hoping to find the name/source of the blue wallpaper in your mudroom. I think you asked we email you for information.
Thanks again for sharing!
